Layman philosophy: does this argument prove Gods existence?
hey guys here is one I thought of this morning, I don't study philosophy, I expect mature answers -
If a man gets slapped in the face, he can safely assume that the offender doesn't like him. Why then do some men still believe that life has meaning despite their life experiences of suffering? Or why do some men feel disappointed when they 'realise' life has no meaning? Life has meaning that can only be met by God.
1. All human beings have a desire to give life meaning
2. This is either by nurture or nature
3.1. If by nurture, meaning is learned from our world and universe,
4. Therefore our life has meaning
3.2. If by nature, meaning is intrinsically part of being a human being,
4. Therefore our life has meaning
5. The highest possible truth in life is God
6. God is the highest meaning
7. Therefore God exists
notes:
1. - the keyword in not 'All' but 'Desire', no-one exists who does not seek some sort of identity or meaning or fulfilment - many people say their meaning is life enjoyment, but obviously admit that there is no eternal point/truth to his version of freedom.
3.1 - if meaning is ultimately learned through the world and universe - we evolved towards homo-sapien, our self awareness (which forms our identity in society) sought an identity in within the world and universe, we may have no identity but we still realise a purpose or meaning to the world and universe.
6. Its logical then to believe in God, weather you know he exists or not, because nothing can explain him
7. He must exist since he is the highest meaning of life
Enjoy discussing that, I hope its interesting! :)
Thanks for the participation- maybe I should re-word
1. maybe a more accurate word would be 'definition' - philosophy is a prime example of giving meaning to life, so when nihilism and hedonists deny meaning they thereby give it one ie. 'meaningless'. also (normal) humans feel disappointed when they 'realise' that life has no meaning, because we like to believe that we do have meaning - "its natural"
3.1 & 3.2 If someone is in sincere pursuit of the truth, then surly they cant ignore these questions, they are as much part of life as science and maths are, which no serious person would ignore or dismiss
4. since then said questions exist, then by their very nature, they must be answered according to their own rules, like maths or science are. and the answer is what is gives the most meaning to life
5, 6 + 7.
playtime.

soem men liek being slapped inthe face, and its not always by someone who doesnt like them
the meaning isnt in the experience or suffering, its in your view of them/it
i think we get dissapointed realising that because we are expecting it, like you said, so like anything it dissapoints you when you dont get it
"Life has meaning that can only be met by God."
i dont know if thats you saying that or someone else, but i dont agree
life has meaning that can be met by anything that makes someone feel it gives them meaning, and thats a lot of things
"..deny meaning they thereby give it one ie. 'meaningless'"
its similar to the arugment in science that nothing is actually something , tho i dont think saying something is meaningless makes it meaningful,
it means they dont find meaning in that specific thing, it doesnt make life have meaning or be meaningless just cos someone says they dont believe in god or in a 'spiritual meaning'
as was said, it must be because it is, is circular reasoning
no it doesnt prove gods existence, because theres no proof to support it and because all the different variables can suggest lots of things not just god

1 Unless nihilists are not human beings, and hedonists even considered the word 'meaning', I would have to disagree.
2 Nothing to contend.
3.1~4 That meaning can be created does not mean that meaning (objectively) exists.
3.2~4 That meaning can be perceived does not posit that meaning (intrinsically) exists.
5&6 Essentially suggesting the same thing.
5 There is no necessity for the conclusion of 5 under 3.1.
6 There is no evidence for the justification of 6 other than self-proclamation.
5,6~7 Is what we call 'circular reasoning'.
notes
1 Refer to top. Declaration of the existence of an eternal point/ truth through self assumption.
3.1 Simply means that meaning is perceived 'subjectively'. That you realise ie that you live for your wife and children does not posit that the world and universe 'objectively' exists to support that same purpose.
6 Much like god, nothing really explains the Leperchaun, Big Foot, Lochness Monster or Unicorn either.
Do you see any logical sense in worshiping them for the sake of lacking a better explanation?
There is no logic to belief in god, only a desire to believe in god.
Psychological studies can establish that.
7 Circular reasoning, again.

i don't think of so through fact... a million) Evolution gave us the potential to alter into cognitive and keep in mind issues that's what gadgets us different than for maximum different animals ( some animals can keep in mind issues, yet lack the comparable cognitive comprehend-how) 2) the two important factors of the beginning of all existence come from some form of God, or the great Bang thought. in case you have been a great Bang thought guy or woman, than that would negate wanting a God for the creation of human beings. we've made it so long by utilising evolving with many dieing alongside the way as they chanced on the "what to do's/and what to not do's". 3) there is Philosophy through long evolution in techniques progression and adult men/womens would desire to justify existance. additionally, our worry of loss of existence and the unknown seems to be a sturdy root reason we might seem for a which ability of existence and tips about a thank you to stay to tell the story. IE the prefer for survival is the basis for the above prefer for expertise. basically some techniques.

There are no arguments that can prove the existence of god. The only proof is for god to make himself known and appear to the world. It is not going to happen and so there is really nothing to discuss. God is a man made crutch to quantify our existence which in reality is simply to perpetuate the species. We are all nothing more than the product of physics and evolution.

People can make an answer but there is no a reason. (This is your so-called free will.)
God can make a reason but there is no an answer. (This is your so-called destiny & chance.)
Sometimes I say, Newton's apple is more clever than Newton.
Hope it helps.

well seeing god does NOT exist no argument is ever going to prove he / she / its exists.
