strange grinding noise from engine. cracked radiator!?

my radiator is cracked a little bit on top on the plastic part. when it is in drive, coolant flows out. and there is a grinding/ slight popping sound when it idles or when i start to press the gas.my car is just sitting on my driveway for now. is it from the water pump? or something else. please help!

my engine does not overheat though

    If the radiator is cracked, it can't build pressure. No pressure means lower boiling point of the coolant. I bet you're hearing coolant boiling at idle.

    You're heading right into a major repair bill if you don't get it fixed NOW. One overheat and you can warp the cylinder heads. That'll cost you $1,000 PLUS the cost of the radiator.

    maybe the fan is hitting the radiator shroud.
