I am applying at Aaron's sales and lease but I have a criminal record..?

Hello there, I called Aaron's today to ask about an extension and I told the manager I lost my job at olive garden. He told me that I am well spoken and I should apply as a sales manager at Aaron's. I know my background might hold me back from this but he was building up the job so much that I really want to give it a shot and apply. I do have a felony from 5 years ago. I made a dumb mistake and now am stuck with a felony criminal mischief charge, with the possibility of getting it expunged after my unsupervised probation is over, which is very soon. Other than the felony I have a solid work history along with voluntary community service at the VA hospital, I can flawlessly pass a drug screen and meet all the other requirements, and I have great references.

Could anyone give me any advice?

Will my background for sure prevent me from getting the job?

thank you for your time

Speaking as someone that's been in your shoes, I hate to say it, but this is one of those times where honesty is your best bet. But, how soon until you think you can get the whole thing expunged? Will the job still be there by then? Whatever the case, sit down now, if you haven't already, and write up your work history, community service, etc, anything that shows that you were, and are a responsible, contributing member of society. Then you put on a shirt and tie, go in, hand in your app, resume, let him go through all of it, then when the questions start, bring your history up right off the bat. Explain what happened, and go from there. Hopefully by then he'll have been impressed enough with your demeanor, intelligence, and experience to give you a shot.

I have a very good job here in town, after the interview process was over I brought up the fact that I did 10 years in prison. The manager was so impressed not only with my work history, ethics, personality, and honesty, he said, "Let's just keep that between us", and gave me the job. So, you never know, in this day and age so many people have records that if no one hired them no one would be employed at all. Good luck to you, let me know what happens.
