Why not legalize marijuana?

I don't believe in legalizing other street drugs but don't understand why pot isn't legal. It's probably pretty equal in pros and cons to alcohol and many people are smoking it as much as drinking alcohol, so why not?

It's bad enough that alcohol is freely available to anyone 21 or over. The fact that alcohol is legal is not a good argument for the legalization of marijuana. People who smoke marijuana and drive are a public safety hazard.

Good question! I have asked many times myself. For all the few negatives marijuana has there are so many more benefits. Most people have no idea of the medicine value and how it helps people with Cancer, Aids, Kidney Disease, and many more to list. For those who just want to smoke? The government will get billions of dollars in tax money, The one thing I get tired of hearing is how much smokers cost America. Well did you know that the medicaid program was once funded entirely by the tax dollars paid for by smokers. A pack of smokes on average is $5.00 a pack here in Florida if not even higher and 70% of the price is paid in taxes. If all Americans quit smoking where would the government get all that money?

I think it should be legal but with stipulations on it like with alcohol - gotta be 21 to buy can't get caught drivin on it etc.. weed really isn't that bad, no one ever died from smoking too much weed,if anything you might overdose on a bag of double stuffed oreos..plus the government could tax it then and prob eliminate the national debt

It's too hard to tax and regulate. You can grow marijuana in your back yard but you can't grow a bottle of booze.

I believe it should be legal, b/c you never heard of anyone dieing from weed you never heard anyone OD from weed. Your weed side effect, hurrgy,sleepy, forcus. etc.
