Filter for 75 gallon aquarium?

Canister filters provide better filtration than does HOB filters, especially when it comes to biological filtration. If looking for single filter, a canister is the route you want to go. However, it is never a good ideal to have a single filter on a tank because if something goes wrong with it, it's an emergency. With two filters running, it's only an inconvenience. My standard recommendation is a quality canister filter running in conjunction with an HOB filter. HOBs compliment canister filters quite well, especially if they run at a higher flow rate than the canister. This makes them the primary mechanical filter and it's a lot easier to remove gunk from an HOB cartridge than it is from canister media.

As for specific filters, on a 75 gallon tank I would recommend an Ahem 2217. These filters are probably the most reliable filter on the market and they do a great job. In addition to the 2217, I would run an HOB optimized for mechanical filtration. A Cascade 300 would be an excellent option here as they are effective and inexpensive but you would never go wrong with an Aqua clear.

I wouldn't recommend anything on that list, except maybe the Aqua Clear filter, you should look into Fluval and Eheim canister filters instead.

isntead of getting just one filter buy two 30-60 gallon filters. It looks nicer having two than one and its great filtration. I have two aqua tech

The Aqua top sounds ok but look into Fluval filters specifically the 405

get a canister filter. worked for a pond i made for one of my clients.

or you can always get algae eaters and snails.
