Other Christians. Where did Jesus say it is okay to kill for self defense?

If we are to follow His example, like He requested.... He didn't. As you know from the above verse. And that's not the only one....

Matthew 5:40-42 --- And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.

Luke 6:29, 35 --- To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either..... But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return....

You know, I've always wondered... not that I can convincingly claim I "definitely would react this way"..... but is it odd for the Christian to worry about being murdered or become deathly ill? Not that the murderer will be forgiven if they never repent of taking a life they have no right to take.... but aren't they sending the Christian... to a place where we "want to go" anyway? Just a little sooner than WE expected, is all. How about sickness? Is it all that raw of a deal to go into the presence of our Holy God sooner, rather than later? I would never seek out being sent earlier than my time. THAT would be sin. But its not all that bad of a deal, when you think about it----in light of eternity and in the Spirit. Is it so wrong to pray to the Lord, to please show you why you "need" to remain here longer than you're thinking you should? I hope not. Oops, if so. I'm probably just feeling the full brunt of old age today. It's cold as sin, and my bones are aching to beat the band. Yeah. It's probably that. Never mind the philosophic bend in the mind....

Luke 22:35-39 And He said to them, "When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?" So they said, "Nothing." 36 Then He said to them, "But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. 37 "For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: 'And He was numbered with the transgressors.' For the things concerning Me have an end." 38 So they said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough." 39 Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him.

Edit: Thou Shalt Not Murder. Premeditated murder is wrong, Killing someone in self defense is not.

Jesus warned of dire times to come, and advised men to buy a sword, even if he had to sell his cloak to afford one. Two swords were produced by his disciples, and he replied, "That is enough." If they were not supposed to use the swords for self defense, what WERE they supposed to use them for? Walking sticks or something?

    v. 53 Thinkest thouthat I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

    v. 54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

Jesus told him to put up his sword so that His sacrifice on the cross could be fulfilled. He was more than able to stop his arrest.

Luke22:36-38 Then said he (Jesus) unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his bag; and he that HAT NO SWORD, LET HIM SELL HIS GARMENT, AND BUY ONE. For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me. "And he was reckoned among the transgressors": for the things concerning me have an end.

And they said, Lord, behold, HERE ARE TWO SWORDS. And he said unto them, It is enough.

Jesus allowed 2 swords among his apostles for self protection.

Jesus is the one who told his apostles to buy swords and carry it with them: "He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. It is written: `And he was numbered with the transgressors' ; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment." The disciples said, "See, Lord, here are two swords." "That is enough," he replied. (Luke 22:35-38, NIV)

The passage you brought up is reffering to the situation not related to self-defense.

    Luke 22

35 Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?”

    “Nothing,” they answered.

36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. 37 It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’[b]; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”

38 The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.”

    “That’s enough!” he replied.

It doesn't directly say to kill for self defense but if there is a gun against your head and you have a registered legal gun in your pocket you can use because you are saving your life don't shoot that person in the head but shoot at the leg to have time to call 911.

Don't worry about Jesus. Even the 10 Commandments do not say not to kill. The correct translation is "Thou shalt not commit murder." Some killing is considered justified, such as in self-defense.

LOL that verse wasn't Jesus refusing to defend himself he was speaking to Peter who despite having already been told that Jesus was going to die for the sins of mankind Cut off the ear of someone who was taking him away to do so. Jesus even said that if he asked his father(Consider the trinity) could have sent legions of angels to defend him. He was perfectly capable of self defense but refused to defend himself so he could die for the sins of man..
