would you be offended if?

the janitor put the garabage can on your chair at work with a nasty childish note that said you made the mesh you clean it up when all you did was throw away your cup and the ice left in it melted which happened to leak through the bag?

Yeah I would. That's the janitor's job to clean up messes. If he doesn't want to do it he should find another job. I would show the note to your hiring manager or to the janitor's boss. He is getting paid to clean up messes.

And I used to be a housekeeper, so I know how it is to clean up other people's mess. You just have to deal with it.

Yes, that is completely inappropriate for the janitor to do. I would contact the janitorial company's customer service department (or just calling the main phone number) and let them know what happened.

Even if you leave a cup with liquid in your garbage can daily, it is OK to do. But knowing the janitor is a little upset by it, might encourage you to toss out the water into a sink or better yet, into a potted plant rather than tossing out the water or ice.

yes that is offensive. report it to your manager who should report it to the janitors manager. if there was an issue with the trash can. your manager should of been contacted and perhaps they could of put up a note asking that cups be empty before deposited. also how would th janitor know it was your cup and which was your chair? sounds odd , maybe something else is going on. maybe an office prank at your expense?

That kind of defeats the purpose of a janitor? How would you feel about an electrician that came to your house to tell you to fix your own mess? You should do it again, teach that ho janitor a lesson.

Complain to the head custodian and find out which custodian was cleaning your office that day when you found that note. He/She had no right telling you to do their job.

Yes. It's his job to clean it up. Not very professional of him.
