Is Einstein's equation E=mc^2 applicable to dark energy and dark matter?

Dark energy and Dark matter were not known during Einstein's time. Does the eqn need modification with respect to Dark Energy and Dark matter?

    '...Something from Nothing

Could dark energy show a link between the physics of the very small and the physics of the large? But energy is supposed to have a source — either matter or radiation. The notion here is that space, even when devoid of all matter and radiation, has a residual energy. That "energy of space," when considered on a cosmic scale, leads to a force that increases the expansion of the universe.

Perhaps dark energy results from weird behavior on scales smaller than atoms. The physics of the very small, called quantum mechanics, allows energy and matter to appear out of nothingness, although only for the tiniest instant. The constant brief appearance and disappearance of matter could be giving energy to otherwise empty space.

It could be that dark energy creates a new, fundamental force in the universe, something that only starts to show an effect when the universe reaches a certain size. Scientific theories allow for the possibility of such forces. The force might even be temporary, causing the universe to accelerate for some billions of years before it weakens and essentially disappears.

Or perhaps the answer lies within another long-standing unsolved problem, how to reconcile the physics of the large with the physics of the very small. Einstein's theory of gravity, called general relativity, can explain everything from the movements of planets to the physics of black holes, but it simply doesn't seem to apply on the scale of the particles that make up atoms. To predict how particles will behave, we need the theory of quantum mechanics. Quantum mechanics explains the way particles function, but it simply doesn't apply on any scale larger than an atom. The elusive solution for combining the two theories might yield a natural explanation for dark energy. ..."

Dark matter is simply mass that isn't doing anything that causes it to glow. I certainly have no problem believing in such things as cold dust. I see no reason why the all the mass in the universe has to be in the form of things that glow so we can see them on our telescopes. I have a harder problem with dark energy, and I'm really hoping that somebody actually successfully revises general relativity to cope with it. I think it would be really exciting to live through such a significant revolution in physics. Keep in mind that GR is an incredibly successful theory, so the next theory would still make all the same predictions that GR does in places where it's been successful (as GR does with Newtonian mechanics). The new theory, whenever it appears will identify limits on the domain of applicability of GR.

As far as I am aware of, Astronomers are the only scientists that postulate the existence of dark matter and dark energy. Nobody know what they really are, may be something between a very dense neutron star and a small black hole. It is only observed by it's effect on near its vicinity similar to that of a black hole. It is so exotic that our knowledge of it is so very limited. It is still a big mystery. For all we know Einstein Theory and Quantum Theory breaks down completely when applied to a black hole. Maybe TOE (Theory of Everything) or the String Theory will shed light to it.

Yes, the equation holds for any such thing with a mass. Unless, the speed of light is proven to be higher than previously calculated or another strange phenomenon, As of now, no exceptions have been found.

We will soon know whether it is applicable or not .

all depends on the results from the LHRC (where they are searching for a particle faster than light )

they have found one called neutrino whose speed is faster than light . If the verification is done and neutrino is faster than light then einstein's theory is not applicable.

According to me the whole universe is loaded with dark energy and dark matter in which speed of light is nothing so equation of Einstein is not applicable. One would agree with me that speed of thought is far more than speed of light. We need to study our mind and dark matter simultaneously.

Uniontera number 11-1, hope it helps. This is your so-called dark matter and dark energy.

Existence is the time expressed by light itself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AN1jTwHUC7E

    2. When different times met ... Arrow B (This is your so-called "Gravity" / Cause of Higgs boson / Origin of Life / Reason of Biological reaction)

    3. The rose line is the beginning light. (result from Genesis 1:3)

    4. The existence of different time. (result from relativity of light)

    6. Universe came from nothing. (result from No.5 / cf. Playing with bubbles)

6-1. A barrier[posititon] exist between the inner and outer bubbles. But universe do not have that barrier. (Cause of Inertia / Reason of Sun / Position of Antimatter / Origin of Fire / cf. Expansion, Conservation of parity, Time-reversal invariance)

6-2. Nothing is not a no existence. No existence is a zero dimension. There is two zero dimension. One has a position. The other doesn't have a position. These different positions were connected by something. That "something" is not a what but a way. (Cause of Light / cf. Ether)
