Why is late virginity such a taboo subject?

I know a lot of people have been very open to talk about waiving their virginity when they're like in their late teens. For those that still haven't gave it away well into adulthood, they start to feel uncomfortable talking about it.

One shocking thing I found is that for Japanese adults by the time they're 40, more than 25% of them haven't even taken that plunge of losing it.

If you happen to lose your virginity rather late, did you feel ashamed of telling your partner about it? Did your partner feel alright about it too?

Does it always feel more uncomfortable to even talk about it as time goes by?

It's not taboo to me. I don't know why people seem to be in such a rush to lose their virginity. Once you lose it you can't get it back. EVER. I applaud those who still have theirs past the age of 20, because it's rare. Many people still believe in the traditional way of saving their virginity until their wedding night, and some still have their virginity because their religion is very important to them. Some are even virgins by personal choice. I'm 21 years old, a virgin, and I'm keeping my virginity until my wedding night. That is the greatest gift I could ever give to my husband. Even better is that hopefully he'll be a virgin as well. I'm not ashamed of being a virgin. I'm actually proud of it, because of the feeling of pureness. Just because the media promotes sex doesn't mean you have to go out doing it too. Sex isn't a game. It's a special bonding that should only happen between husband and wife.
