Why do people who don't give a d@mn about Christ celebrate the 25th?
It just seems like a very greedy holiday, what will you get me? where is my present? what are we eating? Where are the drinks? The true meaning of the day is not even given a thought b most people it is just o day of gimme gimme gimme. I am not Christian so I don't have the holiday in my home, I just wonder why so many people who don't know anything about the reason for the day, get so involved in it? Looking at the questions here they are all about how much should be spent on a gift or something about the gift. why not just call it gift day?

Christmas was originally a Pagan holiday. Roman Christians adopted it in the fourth century under the rule of Emperor Justinian (who made it a civic holiday once Christianity was the official state religion) in order to help stop worship of a sun god.
"Roman pagans first introduced the holiday of Saturnalia, a week long period of lawlessness celebrated between December 17-25. During this period, Roman courts were closed, and Roman law dictated that no one could be punished for damaging property or injuring people during the weeklong celebration. The festival began when Roman authorities chose “an enemy of the Roman people” to represent the “Lord of Misrule.” Each Roman community selected a victim whom they forced to indulge in food and other physical pleasures throughout the week. At the festival’s conclusion, December 25th, Roman authorities believed they were destroying the forces of darkness by brutally murdering this innocent man or woman."
Christmas has always been about selfishness.

It's not just about food and presents, I love Christmas because all my family and friends get together and we give presents because it's better to give than recieve. Christmas doesnt have to be about religion, but it can if you want it to be.
Easter is the same. It's about Christ for people who want it to be. You can go to the services and light candles if that's what you want to do. On the other hand, you can make someones day by buying them a huge Easter egg.
