Why was the first commandment Thou Shalt Not Have Any Gods Before Me?
Why wasn't it 'don't drink dirty water' or 'be nice to people'? Is god so insecure that his first thought was for himself (even though, we're told there is no other god) and not for the non-omniscient, non-omnipresent and non-omnipotent mortals who it created? Wow! Your god's got some major issues!

Ohh Not insecure and not with Issues, You Judge God by Your faulty Human reasoning, Truth is, Those who do not worship the true and living God are none of His, and their eternal destiny is hell. But the true worshippers are identified by their worship of God, and their eternal home is with the God they worship and adore.
God demands, seeks and requests our worship because He deserves it, because it is the nature of a Christian to worship Him, and because our eternal destiny depends upon it. That is the theme of redemptive history: to worship the true, living and glorious God.

The Israelites had bee captive in Egypt and some had been worshipping the Egyptian Gods prior to leaving Egypt. As Jehovah is the only true God he has every right to command we worship him alone. Jehovah is the Universal Sovereign, the creator, and only true God, his commands separated the Israelites from the false worship and unclean practises of the other nations. Some of the practises in false worship included child sacrifice, bestiality, sex orgies and drunken bouts, medical practises included using excrement in poultices used on wounds; so rather than criticise God you should get down onn bended knee and ask his forgiveness as well as giving us his word the Bible to guide and direct us.

The command to worship one God in one way only, to the exclusion of all others, seems originally to have been a way of uniting a people within their social structure and engendering enmity against other peoples who might compete for, or already possess, desired land and resources, and ‘justification’ for their genocide related in several places in the Bible such as Numbers 31.

Because at the time the commandments were presented to Moses the children of Israel were idolatrous and Aaron had made a golden calf idol. So angry was Moses that he introduced that commandment first!

Obviously this deity has an inflated ego and is a bit self conscious, which is odd for what some believe to be the creator of the universe.. I mean to have human-like emotions! Preposterous!

The first 4 are about him. Also add, "Do not make a graven image," "Do not take the Lord's name in vain," and "Keep Holy the Sabbath."
Would've liked to see "Thou shalt not enslave thy fellow man," and "Treat thy women as thou equals."
It's says something when a guy sitting at a computer can do a better job on 4,000 year old rules than any god can.

Because the HUMAN who created the idea of "God" realized something, "Oh man...I need to create a rule that tells people to believe in MY "God" because I want all the power to remain here...blithering idiots they all are."
