Is there something wrong here, or am I just too old?

Halftime at a high school basketball game. Middle school dancers perform a dance routine to Rhinana's S&M that simulates a strip club. At first I thought that I might be mistaken about my perception. But then the finale of monopoly money being tossed in the air, a la "making it rain", verified my fears.

I have no idea what in the hell has happened to people's judgment. Y...ou think one of the parents would have said something, but the routine ended with cheers as I walked out in complete disgust.

Have we come to the point where it's acceptable for young girls to be trained for a life of objectification?

Yeah, yeah, I know I'm old, but come on! I want my granddaughters to be valued for more than shaking their butts. Thankfully their parents wouldn't allow them to participate in such a thing, and for that I'm grateful. I guess I did something right. But I worry about the future.

sign of the times old man... your parents thought the same when you were young and their parents and so on. Aristotle once ask; the questions of the virtues of are young people and was concern where it would lead us. his fear was that children were lost and had no clue what was ahead of them. now that guy said this many moons ago. so, old man you are look at this through older eyes. life hasn't changed at all, you just grew older.

You are not too old. I'm in college and know plenty of kids people around my age that would be just as disgusted, even teenage boys I know because they don't want daughters out of worry they'll be slutty. It's really disgusting and I would have never been allowed to do something like that, but I also see teenage girls with their facebook pictures in their underwear and their parents added as friends with obviously no objection to it. Not private pictures their parents can't see, but their display photo the whole world can see including their parents.

I probably wouldn't mind it as much is it were high schoolers, juniors and seniors, doing that dance, but middle schoolers definitely not. I recently found out my 15 year old cousin in pregnant at the same age her mom was with her, and to be honest, there were some signs she was probably going to end up that way... I have a few other young female cousins who definitely don't act their age.

Yeah, I recently saw a pom routine with middle school girls done to the song, "I'm sexy and I know it." The routine itself wasn't provocative and the costumes were not revealing, but I was surprised at the choice of song.

I'm afraid that the judgment of some of the adults involved is questionable.

Oh my goodness do I agree with you! I'm 19 and even in high school would stare at the cheerleaders in disgust while they would shake what their mamas gave them to the crowd in their sparkly gold panties! I perform in tumbling routines and will flat out refuse to do such things because not only does that make me feel awkward but it makes the whole crowd feel awkward! I am embarrassed by the people of my generation who enjoy doing this for applause...

Poor choice of song considering the setting. Not appropriate to be played in a school.

However, I remember my favourite songs as a child and when I went back to re-listen to them as an adult realized just how dirty they were.

But at the time when I was prancing around in the living room to them, they were just nice sounding etc. I didnt pick up on the sexual side of it (which is quite obvious)

The girls had the choice to be there, people make the choice to buy the music, and the viewers chose to watch/cheer. Everyone is entitled to their opinion like you are.

Now, if your granddaughters are different, that's OK, but it's not your job to go around telling people that they're wrong.

Source(s): Just sayin' that until you can prove that this is harming all parties, you shouldn't judge. Muslims think that it's bad for women and men to kiss before marriage. Do you agree? Do you think that they're being too prudish? Why? See what I'm doing here?

I'm not old and I feel the same way. Our values have eroded severely and it only appears to be getting worse.

I'm sure you're not the only one who didn't approve. But not many people will take the first step and say, "Hey, not okay!"

Luckily yours know better. And the little girls participating in it are getting the wrong message because that 'cheer' and applause only reinforces what they're doing.

People are stupid. Unfortunately that is the majority of our population. Especially the younger generation. I'm 17. I understand people wanting to express themselves and all, but really? I know we live in a "More Open generation" but that's going a bit far. Lets not be sluts in front of everyone. Or at all. Control your hormones. That coach is an idiot. Ugh. I'm terrified of the future.

WTH? Okay, I'm 15 and that is incredibly disturbing. Some coach obviously has bad judgement.
