Condensor fan question on 2007 Dodge Ram?

I just bought a 2007 Dodge Ram with the 4.7L V8. When I drive the truck and turn on the HVAC (heater) the condensor fan comes on. At first I thought it was attached to the radiator or that it may be there in line just to cool some other part of the trucks coils, but I is really cold outside and the thing is still running. Is this part of how the sytem operates or is there something wrong such as a bad relay or something? I would really like to know, since these fans do wear out and I really want to save it for sunny days where it may be over 100 degrees here. Anyone have a clue about this? Thanks for the feedback, this is my first dodge.

Do you mean clutch fan? If so, yes this is how they work. In colder weather, it takes longer for the clutches to warm up and release. Also when idling and just above, the clutch fan will remain engaged until a certain RPM, then will disengage.

If you mean AC compress or. Will engage when the defrost is selected. this adds moisture, and prevents the wind screen from fogging and icying on the inside. Hope this helps.

If still under warranty take to a dealer if U mean the fan attached to the radiator it cycles and should be off till operating temp or A/C is on.

The condenser fan should run only when the a/c or defroster is in operation. Check the a/c compressor and see if it is running when heater only is selected. If it is, there is a malfrugalty somewhere that needs attention.

Buying a dodge with the 4.7 is a big mistake. The 4.7 is a very weak engine. It is prone to over heat. When it over heats it has steel valve seats, they drop down and jam valve open. we have a shop and all we do is 4.7 engines. We did almost 95 this Year. Keep good oil and watch the temp. On average the miles are 100000 to 130000 is all they get. They very expensive to work on that is if you can find someone to work on it. Autozone get 3400 for long block. Finding a good used 4.7 engine is rare as hens teeth.
