Why do the Dems oppose building a pipeline?
It seems like this would be a good think for the economy and our energy needs.
The only ones I see being opposed aside from those in office are the tree huggers.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't there a major pipeline in Alaska and to the best of my knowledge there has not been any serious environmental problems with that. It is always a possibility there could be an accident, but the same logic applies to getting on a plane or driving your car. Risk versus benefit.

I don't think all Democrats are against it, but you have to look at the political liability a democratic member of the house or senate takes if they go along with popular pipeline. They would be voting against the Obama administrations edict, and that means they will not be loved when it comes time for reelection, meaning they will not get the kind of dollars and support needed from the DNC.
And as a side note for those answers touting everything from environment to not a good investment, I say hogwash! BP just was just approved for more deep water drilling by this administration along with a half a dozen other big oil companies. If anyone was to worry about any part of the ecology they should focus on deep water drilling within our own boundaries. Silly people!

Its not so much the dems as the tree hugging liberals the same tree hugging liberals that didnt protest the the whitehouse to stop all the other pipelines going up and now when the economy needs it the most they are fighting against it.
Take a look at all the other pipelines

It is a payoff to the people that also pocketed money from TARP for green energy scams.
The very idea that a pipeline is safer for the enviroment than trucks or ships is laughable to everyone but the most delusional enviromentalist whacko and the people that score cash off of them.

Wake up fella. Republican whose states will be impacted are calling it a waste of money.
The only reason you only see tree huggers is because that's what you choose to see.

It's predicted that it would actually be bad for jobs. It woulds also create a large amount of ecological problems in Canada, where they would be doing the actual drilling, and reduce incentives to develop alternatives to fossil fuels. If America falls behind further in the race to develop better alternatives, then in the future we will lose our position as the technological number one. That'd be even worse for the economy.

Because it would reduce the pressure for switching to their beloved "renewable energy".

Way too much danger of poisoning water supplies that span several states. This whole idea started in Feb 2005 and didn't go far then either.

I think they are afraid that the mean, dirty Canadian oil will damage our environment more than the Middle Eastern enemies we are dependent on for oil now.
