Questions concerning my 2 year old grandson, bedtime, and getting into the cat liter/being wild with the cat?

I have a wonderful little 2 year old grandson that visits and stays over from time to time. He's wonderful. I have a few questions though.....#1) he is getting too big for his pack and play but I don't dare put him in a toddler bed...if he got up before me, he would trash the house and probably get into alot of mischief and then there are safety issues when he isn't being supervised (like with any 2 year old child). What can I get him to sleep in that would still keep him in bed playing until I got up. I sometimes here him talking to himself and playing and let him do this for a little while before getting him up. Also......He loves to play in the cat liter.........doens't matter where you move it, he plays in it as if it were a small sand pile....I can't really put the liter box up somewhere.........Also, my grandson loves to chase the cat and the cat is not fond of this. I am an animal lover and don't feel that the cat should have to put up with this............what should I do. Because she is an inside/outside cat, she can go out for a bit (and wants too) but not for long in this weather. I'm at a loss as to how to take my grandson and also protect my cat. Thanks for any helpful information.

Update:

Forgot to mention that my grandson tears his bed apart now. He just started tonight. He will somehow get the mattress out from under him and throw it out. He then has nothing but a hard medal frame to sleep on........so........I have to go in again and put the mattress back in the crib with an extra thick layer over it and then the sheet. UGH! He is out to get me.....lol......Anyway, you have to go in and settle him down again after he has messed his bed up, threw all his stuffed animals, watered down juice cup, blankets, etc.....on the floor and then start all over. I am thinking of putting that sticky gray tape (electrical tape) on the bottom of the mattress so he maybe can't get it out.

The kitty litter is a good one, basically correct him from doing this. Explain it is 'ca-ca' and preoccupy his mind. Correct him from chasing the cat. I have a 2 year old who doesn't chase our cat because she has a tendency to be very mean. And the bed, I have my daughter in a toddler bed, and actually when she gets out of it, she comes and gets me. She usually doesn't get into much trouble otherwise. Best thing in the world is a baby gate!!! Keep some small toys and such in room with him and he'll be occupied with toys even if he gets out of bed.

Get one of those door knob cover things so he can't get hte door open. then put the litter box in that general area. Maybe invest in some baby gates and put the cat on one side and the kid on the other.

If he is sleeping in an actual room, put a door knob cover on the inside knob so he can't get out. If he's just in the living room or whatever, I'm not sure what to do. Maybe get one of those crib tent cover things so he can't climb out/throw things out.

With ur first question you could get a toddler bed and put a baby monitor in the room that way you know exactly when he gets up. I do the same with my 3 yr old.

I suggest that you try the peapod travel bed. I use one for my four year old grandson.
