What's an Ouija Board?

I see it all over this site, but can anyone give me some insight as to what they are?

And I don't give a sh*t whether or not you believe or you're a skeptic, I think that there's too much of each side, humans should learn to be in the middle, like not believing in every ghost story or just simply opening your world to possibility and respect each others opinion.

It's just a board or cardboard that has letters on it and "yes and no", and when using a planchette, the spirit is supposed to point to the letters to spell things out in answer to questions.

Most people say it's just a game, and in a way, they're right. It is a board game, but it's the way you use it that's where the danger lies. You're opening up communications to the other side, it's an open invitation, and demons are patiently waiting for an invite. The board is just a tool to communicate with, THIS is what makes it dangerous. Same as people running around playing with EVPs (I'm not speaking of investigators, as they've got an agenda for these), just to communicate with an entity. When you open a door for communication, you never know what you'll get. Demons are very crafty, they'll pretend to be a little child, or your old Uncle Charlie, they'll get your trust to suck you in, then they'll turn on you. I'm sure spirits may come forth, but can you really trust that it's really a spirit?

I've had my own personal experience with the board (this was prior to hearing the ouija board horror stories), we didn't know it was bad, heck, I thought it was a toy, that it wouldn't do anything, that it was just as useful as a toy doctor kit. It didn't, the planchette never moved for us. In what started out as playing with a "toy", essentially pretending that we'd talk to one of the ghosts in our house, turned into a flipping nightmare. All hell broke loose. When we had a priest come bless the house, it got much worse, so bad that we were too afraid to have him back out for another blessing, couldn't imagine it getting worse. We had to live with the mess we made until one by one, we grew up and moved out. Sadly, we left our mess for another family to deal with. You cannot help but feel guilty, as I'm sure they're living in fear and there's so much turbulence in their family due to our dabbling.

Ouija boards were invented in their best known form by a business man. They were a parlor game that was supposed to either let you find answers hidden in your subconscious, or to wow you as a mystical 'talking board'. It was only much later that it began to be used by spiritualists in an attempt to contact the dead, and later still (with films like The Exorcist) that it began to be viewed as truly linked with evil.

In my humble opinion, the board is just a tool. It is wood and plastic that can be used for whatever purpose you put it to, there is nothing dangerous or evil about boards in and of themselves.

    Oui means yes in French

    Ja means yes in German

It is a board game manufactured by Hasbro® now, and invented in 1890 by Elijah Bond and it became very popular during WWI and the rest of the century.

It has an alphabet, numbers, and yes and no and good bye as messages. A planchette is supposedly used to elicit answers.

I have a mouse pad with the face of a ouija board on it, and the mouse never moves by itself. Oh, well. It is just a game board for fun.

A OuiJa board is a parlor game invented in the last century. It has letters and numbers around the circumference of the board. You play, most effectively with a partner, buy lightly placing your fingers on a moveable piece with a pointer. You ask a question and subconsciously your micromuscular responses will move the pointer to answer the question.
