Why are most atheists such Debbie Downers?
I'm an atheist, but it seems like so many atheists have only one thing to say on the topic of religion...god isn't real, nothing in the bible is real, you just die when you die... Most have no argument, except that it hasnt been proved, which isn't really a good argument. I'm just saying, so many, especially in this section rather than the world, can't even answer hypothetically, they just gotta be such Debbie Downers! Why?

"no argument, except that it hasn't been proved, which isn't really a good argument"
Actually it is a very good argument.....It is the theists who make the claims...It is they that must prove them...not the atheist!
However you are maybe in the wrong section...'gender studies'....try going over to 'Religion and spirituality' section
Source(s): Added Note:: Wow three of us all say the same thing within a couple of minutes.... Actually a lot of atheists really do know a great deal about religion on 'Answers'.....A lot of time it is the Christians who are the worst...the Muslims/Jews know a fair bit about their religion. So when you see some Christian making the same (already disproved claim) an atheist might simply say “prove it” because even if he gave a detailed response the Christian in question would probably not understand it....one of the requirements of a devout Christian is that you have a low IQ. The singularity is just around the corner ...the beginning of the end for all religion. @ Jeffrey.....Your argument is null....to build on a statement you have to establish the veracity of the afore mentioned....you really need to learn how to debate if you want to make a point. - SamLv 59 years ago
"except that it hasnt been proved, which isn't really a good argument" What? That's the best argument you could possibly have for not believing in something
"they just gotta be such Debbie Downers! Why?" Because when the world around you is shitty, that's what tends to happen. Ever thought that maybe the rest of the world is too optimistic and idealistic?
Jeffrey-K: "A human being cannot prove that God exists with God intervening in the situation" Unfounded statement
" Like I could say to you God is real, but you won't see it or believe it for that matter until God opens your eyes" What utter BS, stop trying to make up nonsense to try and cover up the fact that you have no empirical evidence of god
"You got to give it a fair go, its like saying there is no water in that tap without turning the tap on" No, it's not
Logic would follow that in a tap there is water, while in the universe, logic would follow that there is no divine creator
Subterranean...: Fail
"Atheism is a religion" Do you think that not believing in unicorns is a religion? I mean, how can something that has lists no ideals, maxims, etc. be a religion?
" They need to have faith that someday science will prove life is natural phenomena" What? How could life not already be considered a natural phenomena? Abiogenesis was the process by which life first came about
"I believe practicing Atheism is as ignorant as believing in a creator" You don't "practice" atheism anymore than you "practice" not believing in the infinite number of things that could possibly be real
You fail on all accounts

Because atheists are met with such strong opposition to their views I think it's natural to take a serious, almost unenthusiastic approach to any discussion on religion - I know this is true for me, I don't want a frivolous discussion that will end in everyone believing in what they chose to believe in
On the topic on being a Debbie downer though, I'm an atheist and am a very positive person, and atheism is a huge reason on why I am - my belief is that nothing follows death so I'm damn well going to make the most of the life I have while I'm still living it :$

As an Atheist myself, I somewhat agree with you. While I am adamant in my belief that there is no such thing as a divine being/creator, I don't shove it down other people's throats, and in fact dislike those that do. Further, I have to disagree with you on the lack of a good argument. As I believe has been mentioned before, such proof is reliant on the person who makes a claim, not the person who refutes it.
-responding to a previous comment; Atheism is not a religion. It is in fact non-religion, or denial of religion.

A human being cannot prove that God exists with God intervening in the situation. Like I could say to you God is real, but you won't see it or believe it for that matter until God opens your eyes. Before that happens you need to choose to be open to that. I am a Christian, but if you want to be a true atheist - I challenge you to follow the way to become a christian, then if you still don't believe - you have your proof:-)
You got to give it a fair go, its like saying there is no water in that tap without turning the tap on:-)

i'm no longer indignant via lovable, only somewhat adverse alleged "rock" bands. we've adequate of that kind of crap here contained in the united kingdom with the likes McFly and Elliot Minor. I only desire the Jonarse Brothers stay faraway from those shorelines. BTW, i assumed the cat photograph improve into humorous.

I think Atheism requires a skeptical and maybe more cynical type of person. Maybe they were downers to begin with.
To respond to your other comment, Atheism is a religion. They need to have faith that someday science will prove life is natural phenomena, the same as creationists need faith in a god. I believe practicing Atheism is as ignorant as believing in a creator.

"It hasn't been proved" is a great argument. Religious people alledge that there is a god, but show no proof. The burden of proof lies with the believers; It is not the nonbelievers job to disprove.
