How to get rid of cold sores?:(?

so today i noticed a cold sore.:( it is pretty big and it's ugly! i know that you can't actually get rid of it, there's only things that can make it go away faster. also, i know that they will come back most likely from time to time. (i've done some research on them)

i went to the orthodontist yesterday and i also noticed i was coughing yesterday and had a stuffy nose. today, i am only coughing a tiny bit, though.. but i was reading and it said a cold can make one come. could my orthodontist appointment made it come? or my cold?

so i have Abreva, i believed it's called. so if i keep putting Abreva on, when do you think my cold sore will go away? and any other helpful tips will be appreciated.

and i couldn't have gotten a cold sore from someone else! i didn't kiss anyone... im 13, and i didn't share drinks or anything with people. plus, it's christmas break so i've only been seeing my family, and i don't really think any of them have every gotten a cold sore.

Ok well I doubt you got your cold sore form the orthodontist. You may have gotten somewhere in the past and it just came out now. Regardless of how you got it, you have it now. I have been getting cold sores since middle school and yes it sucks and is embarrassing but it really isn't a big deal. Im 22 now and when I get them its not really embarrassing, its just something people get. Abreva is a great product. If you keep applying it your cold sore should be gone in a week. One think I notice is that when you are getting a cold sore you will start to feel a tingle in your lips and the minute I see any kind of bump I slap that Abreva on there and it usually stops any further progress. Also wash your hands a lot, and dont touch your mouth cause thats a really easy way to get them. Get plenty of sleep because being tired, stress, and things like colds can cause them to happen because your immune system isnt as strong as it should be. Also start wearing chapstick, sometimes if you are out in the sun too long that can trigger them as well. Goodluck

Unless you have gotten the cold sore through sharing drinks, kissing, etc., which you claim you definitely have not, then what you may have is an awkwardly placed zit :P That's what you should hope for, cold sores are for life.
