Should I have fed this homeless guy's dog?

I bought a homeless druggie's dog $30 worth of food and chewables. Was this a wise choice?

The dog he rescued was in decent shape. I'm just afraid of enabling this. Could he swap the food for crack?

I doubt that anyone is going to trade drugs for kibble.

I don't offer money, but I have bought food for homeless people, so why not the dog?

No, homeless people have a really good bond with their dogs, and most take better care that people who have financial capabilities for a dog. - and even if he wanted, i think drug dealers would prefer money. P.S don't jump to conclusions - he might not be a druggie.

If the dog is in good shape, then he is well cared for.

I give homeless people food and if they have a dog some dog food cans.

I think you made the smart choice to buy the dog food for him and not give him money. I rarely give money to homeless people, but I will buy them food at the grocery store and other items. I give cash money to charities that I know will use it for the right reasons. On occasion I have had homeless people to tell me no thank you for the food and refuse the offer. If you are really in need you are not going to refuse any help of any kind in my opinion. If I am buying you food and items then you are free to use any other money you might get for rent, etc. Allot of times you can tell if people are pan handling if you hang back for a little while and watch them. I have seen people ask for change for the bus, someone gives it to them, then they ask another person and another. You know they got more then what was needed for bus fare.

Yes, he could, but he'll more likely swap it for pot.

If the dog is in decent shape, tgen obviously it's getting good care.

Don't assume a homeless person is a druggie. Some people do get laid off, can't find jobs, unemployment runs out, they can't pay rent or mortgage, and wind up on the streets.

HOWEVER. There ARE people who refuse to get a job, and make their living panhandling, because having a job requires work, whereas panhandling just requires sitting there looking homeless.

I doubt he'd think of swapping the food even if he could. He probably did give it to this dog. And if he did swap it, oh well, you tried to do a nice thing and it sucks for the guy. Sadly it also sucks for the dog. But truth be told, druggies or not most homesless people with dogs are really attached to their pets and will try their hardest to keepthe dog happy.

It doesn't matter - what matters is that you did the right thing; and what he does with your generosity is his business.

But I have a weeks pay that says his dog will get ALL the food and more love than most pet owners devote to their animals.

The last homeless person I met was returning my lost wallet to me and I literally had to force him to accept a reward.

I don't know how serious your question is but I have found that homeless people take better care of their animals than most people who have absolutely no excuses for their lack of responsibility.

Just wondering...if he's homeless, where is he supposed to store a big bag of dog food? He's not going to want to carry it around, and if he leaves it somewhere it will just get stolen....

Oh yeah drug dealers(not going along with your assumption the man you helped was actually on drugs) are known for trading drugs for DOG FOOD. *rolls eyes*
