Will all 357 revolvers also shoot 38+P caliber ammo?

Considering purchasing a Taurus CIA 357 short barrel revolver. For the range I'm told I can shoot 38 cal +P or +P+ ammo. Is this correct? Are all 357 revolvers able to fire 38 cal ammo?

Yes. 357 is more powerful than any version of 38, so if the gun is designed for 357, then it can handle any 38 ammo you put in it.

Source(s): Many years at the shooting range.

Yes. All revolvers that fire .357 Magnum will fire .38 Special +P ammunition.

.38 Special and .357 Magnum are nearly identical in dimension except that .357 Magnum has a longer case length.

Yes what made the 357 so popular will accept a 38 casing, but; the obverse is not so.
