Are the Caterpillar 3116 and the 3126 engines Compatible?

I would like to know from someone who has some experience working on these engines, The 3116 kicked out a connecting rod, but I found a good low mile 3126 engine and would like to know if it is an easy swap? The vehicle is a 1994 GMC Top Kick (C-7000)

    Dear MasTec 1970,

I was just reading an article which will answer your questions. You will find the two engines identical in all respects except Horse Power. The 3126 has about 420 hp and over 700 ft-lbs of torque. Check this link: http://www.eggharborowners.org/repowercat.htm for more information.

    Cheers,
