When can I access my free credit reports?

I know that a person can get their credit reports for free from the three major bureaus once per year. But I just naturally assumed that I got request them Dec. 31 one year and then again Jan. 1 the following year. I just realized that that isn't the case. One has to wait a full calender year. Without knowing when I requested my free credit reports last year, is there a way to find out when I'm able to request them again?

You can always just try to request them, and see if your request is accepted or rejected.

Did they send you an email when you got the one last year?
