Thoughts on the Taurus Millennium Pro?

Question

I have read opinions on other sites, but thought I'd ask here too.

Got this for personal protection.  I have never owned a gun before & I am a petite female who lives alone.  I decided it was time to get a handgun for my own protection & intend to take classes at the NRA headquarters down the road.

I was told a 9mm is plenty to do some damage to someone who finds themself in my home at 2 am without an invitation!

I have,  and have carried the Taurus Mil Pro 9mm for about 3 years now. I have about 1000 rounds through it  with zero (0) issues of any kind. I trust mine.

Mine is a 3 generation PT-111 Pro. If thats what yours is- you should be fine. It should have on the left side of the slide the word "Millennium", and on the right side near the front- "PT 111 Pro". 
If you live alone and no chance of children getting their hands on the gun, then you may want to keep a loaded magazine in the gun with a bullet in the chamber also. Then all you need to do is pull the trigger. If you desire you can engage the safety-then you must drop the safety before you can fire. The slide is easy to rack on this gun- so you can even leave the chamber empty if you wish.

I would get some name brand self defense ammo- like Speer Gold Dot, Hornady Critical Defense, or Corbon. You will need to shoot that ammo through the gun to make sure it all feeds and shoots good in your gun- it works great in mine. Then you can buy any "American made" target ammo to practice with. Don't fool with the cheap import ammo- no matter what who says. You will be good to go-
Good luck with it. Get to the range and practice, and take those courses- it will help.

Now one more thing- there are plenty of stories about how Taurus is a poor gun. Some of the stories may be true. But the Mil Pro is a proven gun. Some of the early models were problematic, but that was long ago. If your gun has PT 111 Pro written on the right side of the slide- you are good. 
Be careful...  and learn to shoot it good.

Winchester silvertips, CorBon, Speer Gold Dot. yet i think of all however the Winchester is a plus P around. that is kinda puzzling to discover a competent overall performance shielding around in 9mm that's not a plus P cartridge. Is there some reason you do not wanta +p or +p+ around? The milleniums are rated for top rigidity ammunition.

The Taurus Millennium Pro is an Incredible handgun, the 9 mm will suit you just fine, you may want to consider a laser sight for it as it will help you with quicker target acquisition in low light as well as the day...

Is your life worth more than the cheapest gun you can find? 

If the answer is no, buy the taurus and good luck.

If the answer is yes, you have chosen wisely, avoid the taurus and go with something better. I don't know of a single serious gunner that owns a taurus. There's a reason for that.
