Sooo Lecavalier doens't get a hearing or a fine after this? What gives?

Carcillo got four games after this.

Of course there were different circumstances around the incident (and Bradley was injured after the play whereas Malkin was relatively fine) but the action was the same: Player A sucker punched player B. Is the NHL saying it's ok to sucker punch another player, as long as that player doesn't suffer any significant injury?

    Both should be suspended.

If they suspend every guy who takes a jab at another player in a scrum that the refs are breaking up there would be nights when some teams would have to call up half their AHL team just to play. What happened in the Lecavalier/Malkin instance happens a lot in front of nets and most of us have no idea what got Vinces underwear in a bunch. From the way he went after Malkin in the corner it sure looks like something happened just before that....a slash or something, who knows. The Carcillo incident is different in many ways, Vince was essentially tied up and got off a pretty unimpressive jab while Carcillo took a shot a a guy before giving him a chance to man up. If you truly want to fight and there isnt a ref or linseman to break it up protocol deserves Bradley at least having a chance to drop the gloves and go man to man....Carcillo decided to cheap shot him as he was tossing his gloves....huge difference. From what I saw yesterday the little punch was exactly that....a shot delivered in a scrum no different than gatherings around goalies. If that is suddenly suspendable the league is in trouble and they better increase roster sizes.....Shanny wont get any sleep as he doles out 8,10, 12 suspensions a night. Imagine if they started suspending guys for the nice little stick work in scrums, much worse than Vinces jab and far more dangerous....just like a full on right hook to a guy not ready to defend himself as was the case for Carcillo.

I don't understand why Lecavalier was so mad to begin with, all I saw at that angle was Malkin attempting to dodge the hit.

Anyways, it really wasn't much of a sucker. The contact to the head looked more like grabbing to me. There was a couple jabs to the side before Malkin turned around. I'm happy to see someone go after him though for once. Malkin plays a style of game that involves a lot of stick work and shots when the ref isn't looking, and players don't like that kind of stuff.

    Hi

If you suspend Lecavalier for the sucker punch, then do you suspend Malkin for the stick work? Honestly I put a lot of this on the linesman, they should not have moved in when they did. That is the type of fighting I do not want the NHL to get rid of. I do not remember, was Malkin called for interference on the play? What I am getting at is there was a lot that could have been called on that play and was not.

I will add that I felt Malkin ducked out of the way of the original hit on the play and did not launch himself at the knees, I see a clear difference because of the angle he went down and forward.

    Thank You

people are so dumb when it comes to this. They let their emotions and dislikes cloud the logical thinking here.

    1) Lecavalier should not be fined or suspended.. the game misconduct was enough.

    2) No one can say that malkin was wrong in this situation. They keep saying that malkin tried to low bridge the guy... correct me if I am wrong but lecav was coming from his left side to put a check onto malkin, and malkin ducked and kept going.. like he does ALOT. In order for it to be a low bridge play, I would say lecav would have had to cut infront of malkin and duck.. with lacav being the low bridger. Just an example. You cant low bridge someone whos coming to check out when the guys coming AT YOU.

    3) The sucker punch just shows frustration, but lack of sportsmanship and character. He is a good player, and everyone can loose their cool, and he did there. Im glad he got the game misconduct. That was the perfect call for the situation. I do not think its fineable.

It's probably more of a reputation thing and they considered the fact that Malkin didn't get injured. As we all know, Carcillo isn't a very good boy on the ice, although he's still my favorite player... who won't be playing for the rest of the season due to his injury.

Because Malkin sort of deserved it. He threw an intentional elbow to Lecavlier. Also because no one got hurt during this play.. And all it was to the body, not even the head

  • Malkin intentially lifted his typical dirty elbow into Lecavalier's face and it's not okay to punch him out I would have beat that Russian pig, too.

Where's Matt Cooke's hearing for ending Marc Savard's career?

Well, from what I saw, he punched him in the side. Hardly. Vinny's got a clean record, Malkin was fine...

    I don't call that a sucker punch. I don't even call that a punch.

I think it's because of a) past behavior b) injuries sustained and c) Carcillo hit Bradley in the head--two handed and full-forced...not while he was being restrained.

The NHL is so inconsistent, it pisses me off. Same rules should apply to all players. Same actions, same punishment. There shouldn't be the "different circumstances around the incident" argument/crap.

The league is afraid that Lecavalier's non-presence will draw away TB fans.... you know what happens when fans are drawn away....their wallets walk away with them.
