Fun to drive all year round as a daily driver
Good MPG
Easy to work on
Not big(compact or mid-size)
Reliable
It can be new or used
it needs to be obtainable with a $30k max price
Fun to drive: has both acceleration and handling

If you don't want a sporty car like a Mustang, Camaro, Miata, or Challenger, then you need to decide for yourself what "fun to drive" means.
What kind of driving brings a smile to your face? Feeling a rush of power as you leave half your tires at a stoplight, or do you chuckle to yourself when a sweeping curve opens up and you point your car's nose squarely at the apex? Or a little bit of both?
I personally like cars that handle more than I do cars with lots of brute force. On my short list, in no particular order, would be:
Infiniti G35
Acura TSX
Mini Cooper S
Volkswagen Jetta GLI, or GTI four-door
Ford Fusion Sport / Lincoln MKZ
Mazda 6s (V6 engine)
Pontiac G6 GT
You should be able to find gently used, low-mileage examples of any of these cars, for under $30k.
