Was Crowded House an Australian or New Zealand band?

They're half kiwi, half aussie band and a quarter american. Neil finn, tim finn and eddie rayner(Kiwis). Paul, nick, peter and craig(Aus). Mark and matt(US).

I am a bit unsure about this as I know that Neil Finn is a New Zealander but I think the others were Australian and they were formed in Melbourne.

As somebody else has said, they formed in Melbourne. I've always considered them to be an Australian band because of this.

I mean, you wouldn't consider the Wallabies to be a New Zealand rugby team just because their coach and a few of their players are Kiwis.

Also, AC/DC are an Australian band even though Malcolm and Angus Young are Scottish.

Neil Finn - singer songwriter guitarist - is born in N.z . listen to the song "mean to me" he mentions birthplace 'Te Awamutu' The other originals are Australian - Nick seymour and the late Paul Hester. Both Neil & Paul were in 'Split Enz' - Well known NZ band before Crowded House.

Well maybe you can call them Australasian. The lead singer and primary writer was a kiwi and the rest of the band was originally Australian.

They were based in Australia as well.

Tim Finn joined the band for a while so it evened it out a little.

And Crowded House is now made of a Kiwi,and Aussie who lived in Ireland and two Americans. They are a band of the world :0)

Definitely an Australian band, though some of the members will always consider themselves Kiwis.

Split Enz on the other hand, is definitely a Kiwi band.

I used to think Australia, but recently, they were mentioned on HBO's The Flight of the Conchords in reference to New Zealand. That show kills me! Anyway, the answerer who said Australia, NZ and US is correct.
