Used hard drive in Dell moved to HP?

I have 2 used computers that need some work. The Dell Dimension 8400 has a fairly new hard drive installed but the motherboard has died. The HP a320n works sometimes but the hard drive is on its last legs. I know both systems use SATA hard drives and are running windows XP. I was wondering if it would be possible to move the hard drive from the Dell into the HP. Is is possible ? What would have to be done to get this to work ?

hardware wise, it should be fine.

MicroSoft may give you a popup message about the validity of your product key -- if that happens, there's a toll free number in the message that you call to sort it out.

you may also have driver issues ... the mobo drivers for the HP won't be on the Dell's hdd and thus you may need to run the HP's mobo driver install routine to fix that. You get this from HP, or from your HP created restore disk. Ask HP for help on this if problems develop.

Should be possible as long as theyre both SATA. IT'll be plug and play for the most part, you'll have to install the drivers for the HP on the new drive though.
