What bothers me about American values.?

Everyone seems to worry about retirement and social security in the US. Lets face it, social security is a a failed system. What I don't get is why we treat retirement like its the most impossible thing in the world. But if people retire, they wont make money, meaning they wont be able to support themselves, so without a social security system, who's going to take care of the retirees?

Well I have another question, who takes care of babies and children until they become 18? That's easy, the parents. So why can't it be the other way around? If your parents took care of you for at least 18 years, why do us, Americans, have to create a failing system that's bankrupting our country just so that it can take care of our parents. I understand that not every couple has kids, but if the couples that did have kids and the social security was limited to those who didn't it wouldn't suck as much.

I just want your feedback on this outrageous idea, and want to know why this can't work.

The money paid into social security comes from workers and employers match it. It is not a failed system yet. The part that is failing is called medicare. The high cost of drugs and treatment are breaking down the system. All of the welfare stuff is taken from paid in SS money. That is the real problem in america.

We use social security for disabled people too. It can cost a lot to take care of someone who becomes blind and such. So, it's not just for retirement. A person can become disabled very young. That's a lifetime of society taking care of them. What I don't want to pay for anymore are young unwed teen mothers and their children. Let their parent's or guardians... and the father of the child... and his parents take care of her and her child. That's what happened years ago. Why are we paying for teenage mothers? If parents were responsible to take care of teens who got pregnant, maybe it wouldn't happen. Same with the boys parents!

The system you speak of is in effect now in Sweden. When you are young your parents care for you when you are old the children are required by law to care for the parents. The parents are put into housing supplied by the government the parents homes are turned over at that time to the children. If the children fail to care for the parents they go to prison.
