Do a lot of vegans go back to eating meat?

I've been a Vegan for a while now, and I don't have any immediate plans to eat meat, I'm just curious if anyone knows in general how many go back to eating meat? Or at least go to being a Vegetarian.

I'm a Vegan for ethical reasons, I love animals more than I love eating them! So I'm not some person trying to "lose weight" through a "fad" diet wondering when my time will be up on trying to diet.

Update:

I'm not doing it for someone I'm dating, my fiance is a full blown meat lover, I'm doing it because I genuinely love animals more than I love anything.

Update 2:

I just don't like the thought of eating an animal, what's wrong with that? I don't judge you for eating one, so why waste your energy judging me?

I work with animals all day every day, and I've been around farm animals my whole life when I would stay at my grandparents farm. I just never liked the idea of eating them! I'm not "saving" them, I'm simply taking a stand for what I feel is appropriate for the person I am. Hi, I'm Kristin, and I don't eat animals because I love them and have owned a pet pig. Bacon makes me literally sick to my stomach to think of eating, I'd never eat my dogs, why would I eat a cow? They all have personalities and thoughts and lives, and I cherish that!

Update 3:

@freeyourself1anarchist: obviously you don't know how to read. Don't bother answering if you're going to be smug. I never planned on not being a Vegan, I was just curious. It's not a "diet". I literally clearly have stated that.

Hey, I think the statistics on this are distorted by the fact that some people will experiment with veganism for a while before deciding it is not for them, or those who do it as part of their latest fad. This should be kept separate from those who genuinely do go vegan intending to stick with it and for the right reasons.

For people who do genuinely go vegan for the long term I would imagine not a huge proportion go back to eating meat. Vegans are generally very passionate about their cause and it would seem unlikely that that would change to such a large extent.

If someone is so against animal exploitation I can't imagine how that would someday not apply anymore. I say this because I am a vegan and I can't imagine ever going back to eating meat or even eggs or dairy.

There is also the fact that the longer someone is vegan for, the less appealing non-vegan foods seem as they just can't picture eating them. I have found that I no longer even really think of them as a food option because to me, they are not an option. In my case I can't imagine that ever changing, and I think the longer a person is vegan for the more that will be the case.

No vegans don't go back to eating meat. Some people give up being vegetarian or think they are vegan but really aren't. Veganism is not something you quit it is a way of life not an on and off switch or a wishy washy thing. Living vegan is a commitment to the animals not to exploit them again and to work towards ending their exploitation.

"The word 'veganism' denotes a philosophy and way of living which seeks to end the idea of animals as property and exclude all forms of intentional exploitation of, use of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing, research or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, including people and the environment.

In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."

It sounds like you might just be dieting so I figure this could help and even if not it is still useful info:

Here is a list of animal ingredients to avoid:

    More things to avoid:

    Animals as clothes:

Leather, skins, furs, wool, silk, down, feathers...

    Animals as entertainment:

Circuses, rodeos, zoos, aquariums, animal fights, animal races, hunting...

Companies that DO NOT test on animals(however CHECK INGREDIENTS they only verify testing not ingredients):

Yes, the only Vegans I know who stick are those who never liked meat anyways.

Every hippy kid, as well as every hindu I've met has eaten meat.

Yes, when vegans finally do start eating meat once again we have a special name for it.

    Cured. Kinda like the ham.

Source(s): I don't understand people that don't eat meat for ethical reasons like the one you mentioned. By not eating meat you aren't helping the animals at all. They are still going to be slaughtered. Go rescue a pig. Then celebrate by buying a packet of bacon.

If you are doing it because of someone (like someone you are dating) and you stop seeing you'll probably stop it.
