Do you believe all conspiracy theories to be false?

History has shown that conspiracies can and do happen. However, there is a difference between a genuine theory based on unbiased examination of facts, and wild speculations based on rumor and innuendo.

I tend to hold any conspiracy theory to the rule of complexity.

Generally speaking for a given conspiracy, the likelihood of it being true diminishes exponentially with the number of person required to be involved for it to work.

A conspiracy needs a group of like minded people who are competent enough to do the thing and secretive enough to not let it leak out.

Few people are machiavellian enough to want to do a conspiracy. Even fewer a competent enough to pull it off. And even fewer still know how to keep their mouths shut.

Some of the theories floating around out there now require entire armies of cloak and dagger operatives and half of the media and government to be in on it. Not just unlikely, but practically impossible.

Most of the drivel passed off as conspiracy theories have a fraud or a hoax as the basis. They are created or adapted to make someone money by selling the believers garbage books, DVD, survival supplies, disaster shelters etc or to get the real suckers in to religious cults where the leaders can get all their money out of them. Bart Sibrel's claims that the Moon landings were faked are a classic case, as are the claims of doom in 2012.

They usually start with something that just might be true, or at least something that is not too far off the planet. Once some of the confidence men have got a following, their stories get wilder and wilder, because they can't help pushing their luck. Thus we have had the wild tales told by Joseph Smith, the founder of the Mormons and by Lafayette Ronald Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. Others are smart or controlled enough not to let their fantasies wreck a good scam. Sibrel seems like one of the second type who sticks to one set of lies only and does not gibber about aliens, Illuminati or reptilians.

The target audience is generally young, not very well informed or educated and not too smart, but employed so they can send a bit of spare cash to the promoters of the fraud. The usual hook is that the "government" or some imagined elite have secret knowledge that they don't want the believers to know about. Since the target audience is not very well informed / educated and not very smart, they tend to resent those who are smarter and better educated anyway.

Yes, there are conspiracies. They are generally short lived and involve an absolute minimum number of people and if they are real you don't hear anything about them until they either succeed or fail. Sometimes not for years afterward, if at all.

Your factor is that a few conspiracies truthfully do occur on this international. The time period "conspiracy conception" is in general used approximately a big and incredible conspiracy conception. People conspire. There's no denying that. Many of the most popular conspiracy theories are not hard to debunk, however, as long as one doesn't have a preconceived conclusion to which they're trying to make the evidence conform.

I think there is doubt in the case of the Kennedy assassination .... but as for the other things you listed..

Some could be true, but most major conspiracy theories are completely shitte. Like how 9/11 was an inside job. Stupid people who know nothing about engineering or just about anything claiming that the government orchestrated the event. I don't even know why people call them theories, they're certainly not.

"Conspiracy theory" is terrible nomenclature. It is "conspiracy hypothesis" until there is evidence that is reproducible by independent, unbiased investigators.

The powers that be have their own conspir acy theories, it is a crime not to accept theirs as gospel, even if they don't hold water.

hmmn...this question really gets you thinking....it's 6:56am...i'm not in the mood to be thinking....but i see what you are saying because if we have evidence to back up our facts...how is that considered false.......but there are some theories that have some...."suspicion" as to if it really did happen that way in history....
