Can a grandparent sue for reimbursement of 13 yrs of support?
Grandson is now 15. Since birth, I was sole support of this child. The father had no interest in the child. He was going to High School and then right into college. We NEVER got along, just because of the fact he treated my daughter horribly mentally and physically. He NEVER put forth effort in this childs life financially and emotionally. Now he is a doctor working in a hospital. I am not looking to financially torture him. I just would like some compensation from a lot of money spent raising this child.
I am in Ohio.
The child has not lived with me for the last 3 years. I do not have custody~

Sorry, but unless there was an order of support in place by a judges order, then no, there isn't anyway that you can go back to get the support. If there was a child support order in place that he never paid, assuming he was supposed to pay your daughter, then your daughter can sue him for the back support.
Edit: If the child hasn't lived with you for the past 3 years and you never had legal custody, then, no legally you are not entitled to legally ordered child support. Even if you were, waiting for 3 years after the fact is beyond the legal statute of limitations, so even if you were legally entitled to compensation, you waited too long to sue for it.
Question: Did you ever have any legal written promissory note between the parents and yourself that promised to repay any portion of the amount that you spent on the child while he was in your care?

If you have custody of the grand child, why not seek child support from the father.........
You are not likely to get back what you have spent, but getting some from this point on would be a help.
Not many states allow retro active child support claims, but you can look up the laws of Ohio on their web site.
EDIT then you have NO claim.the option was help out or see him go without........we do this daily with our grand son and will do so until such time as mum and dad are fully on their feet, either give it freely or do not give it at all..................
