Besides bars, clubs, parties that remind you of college, what else is there to do on weekends?
I'm 24 and bored out of my mind every weekend. Most of my intellectual and nerdy friends moved to bigger cities or research universities. The rest just drink every Friday and Saturday night. I don't really like drinking that much, and I don't like to go dancing at the clubs for hours or every weekend.
Some people say that will be the end of my social life but then I see these cute girls in their 20s and 30s running at 9 am on a Saturday - were they out clubbing until 2am? Probably not. So what do you in a small city?
Is this an unusual thing for my age? I'm sociable. A little shy, but extroverted and I love conversing, debating, meeting new people, etc.
I just want to get away from alcohol and do something other than dancing/clubbing.

Start going to the gym, that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
If you're British, join the TA (army reserve essentially) and go on as many weekend exercises as you can - it's something worthwhile, exciting, fun, and you can earn some extra money (and you can go on a tour of duty if you want to volunteer for one).
Alternatively you could try and run for some local government position...I'm not sure how you would go about this or how it would affect your life but I'm pretty sure it would be very social!
I'm sure there are some lighter things you could do also, clubs and societies you could join. If you enjoy shooting you could get a shooting club membership and go shooting there every now and then, you'd meet some nice people. That's just one example.
