I will always buy a top loading washer.  The front loading machines take forever and, in my opinion, they just swish the clothes in a little water.  I love an agitator type top loading washer.  I can see the clothes being moved top to bottom in the wash/rinse cycle and I feel that movement gets them clean and thoroughly rinsed.  As for programing, I feel the more "automatic features" and programs you have, the more chance you have for it to break.  I prefer manual controls and dependability is a MUST!
