Do any vegans here believe in making their pet cat eat vegan cat food? Not trying to be funny?
I had no idea that this even existed until I heard about it on the radio one day last week.I understand about personal choice and the ethics that go into living a vegan life for your self.People like to debate weather or not humans are designed(for lack of a better term no spirituality implied) to be omnivores or not(digestive system, dentition etc)this isn't about that.Cats are designed to be carnivores.Do you feel that it's right to impose your lifestyle on your cat.

Because cats are one of only two species that are obligate carnivores, even the companies that sell vegan cat food don't recommend feeding only that. The people that do so anyway are ignorant douches.
I have a vegan friend who freaked out because I gave her (as part of a gift) rabbit fur mice for her cats. They got pissed when she tried to take them away and made such a fuss she let them have the toys back.

Since everyone else was quick to condemn you without giving you alternatives, I will do that. I do agree with everyone else about cats being obligate carnivores, though. People are omnivores which is why they can survive on vegan diets. Cats eat meat plain and simple. Now if you're a vegan because of animal rights or environmental issues, I can help you out. There are foods on the market made by smaller, socially responsible companies. The easiest way to feel good about what your cat eats is to feed raw. Primal foods are a frozen raw diet that you simply thaw and serve. Primal sources their meats from single farms that practice humane and sustainable farming practices. It will take patience to get your cat switched to a raw diet, but it's definitely worth it. You can also find cat food recipes online and supplement them with raw meat that you buy. This way, you can choose to support local, sustainable farmers, who treat their animals well. If raw is too much for you, try a Canadian brand of food. Orijen, Acana, Now and Go Natural are all really good foods, and Canadian animal handling standards are higher than American ones. I can't remember all of the details, but I know that they can't debeak their poultry. Cats can develop serious problems from a vegan diet, like blindness and heart problems. Try out some of the things I recommended, and just accept that your cat will need to eat meat.

What you decide to feed your cat really comes down to heath rather than ethics.
I am vegan. My dogs are vegan. But my cats are not. I am totally convinced that dogs are able to remain healthy eating a vegan diet. I started feeding my dogs commercial vegan dog food many, many years ago. I had one dog I adopted when she was quite old. I was told she would live two weeks. She could hardly walk when I adopted her. Within a week she was running. She lived happily with me for over three years. Her arthritis went away, as did all her other health issues. All my dogs have been vegan since, including my current dogs.
However, I am not convinced cats can stay healthy on a vegan or vegetarian diet. I know Farm Sanctuary (who rescues animals from the horrors of food production) feeds their cats half and half - half vegan and half not. Cats have a different system and need certain things they get from meat.
So, as I said, what we feed our companion animals isn't about forcing them to do something because of our ethics. It's all about health.
Make sure whatever food you choose has no by-products and no artificial colors. Feeding animals those is wrong. After all, they don't care what color their food is!
Good luck.

Anyone who makes their cat eat vegan is being cruel to it and hypocritical to the idealism they follow of not harming animals.
Cats digestive systems are totally different than ours. Our systems can handle both meat and vegetables, but cats cannot digest vegetables at all. Their systems can only handle meat, they are purely carnivores.
They will starve to death literally if only fed a vegan diet as their systems will not be able to handle it.
Just because we belive something, does not give us the right to foist our beliefs onto innocent creatures who don't have the same capacity to think as we think and depend on us to love them and give them everything they need in life, including their food.

Humyns are omnivores, some choose to be carnists and some choose to be vegetarians of differing sorts. Being omnivorous is just biology it is not the choice we make.
As far as cats are concerned some people have healthy happy vegetarian cats some people choose not to feed their cats a vegetarian diet. So long as the cat is happy and healthy vegetarianism is just fine because most of the stuff we feed them is not ideal so actually working out a healthy veg diet is a lot better than just feeding them the crap we feed them.
Plus we are imposing our lifestyle on the other animals being used to feed the cat or in your case feed yourself so I am not sure why we should kill many lives so that one life can be extended a little bit?
I used vegetarian here because veganism is more than just diet:
"The word 'veganism' denotes a philosophy and way of living which seeks to end the idea of animals as property and exclude all forms of intentional exploitation of, use of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing, research or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, including people and the environment.
In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."
Also I had mentioned carnists earlier and this is a link to a website explaining it:

No, but only because a cat will DIE if he or she doesn't eat meat.
Dogs, on the other hand, can be quite happy vegans (when provided with the right dog food) because they're omnivorous like us.

If God didn't want me to eat meat, he shouldn't have made cows so delicious.

My tom has thrived on a nutritionally-fortified vegan pet food recommended by our vet for five years now. Just like with humans- nutrition matters, not the source. I don't have to "make" him eat anything- he seems to love the brand I feed him, though. He's actually getting a tad tubby.
Veganism isn't a diet, it's opposition to animal commodification, and the *resulting* lifestyle.
Vegans *by definition* don't purchase animal products, regardless of whose mouth the product ends up in. It'd be a bit like a "pro-lifer" paying for abortions for someone, because they were "my friend, and not me". Yeah, okay...
No analytical or empirical evidence suggests any species was "designed" let alone designed "to be" this versus that.
All people live in accordance with their ethical beliefs. I believe it's wrong to commodify sentient beings, and since no part of having a cat requires that I do so, I fail to see the problem.

My cat is not vegan. I feed him normal balanced cat food like pedigree or whiskers. You get it in canned meats and pallets. Vegan diet is not good for the health of cats.

Cats are obligate carnivores. But there will almost certainly be some douchebag who thinks feeding your cat carrots and peas dressed up like meat is good for them. Here's what will happen. The cat has an instinct to eat meat. And that means once it no longer receives meat it will start to hunt for it. If it manages to get ahold of a mouse that's been poisoned... guess whose next?

This is without a doubt one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. Look at a Killer Whale and tell me it isn't clear that critter is supposed to eat meat.
