What will happen if I prune my climbing rose to fit a small space?

My hubby bought a climbing rose and planted it by the front door of our business. It has grown so tall that it hangs out over the sidewalk and pricks people coming in the door. Should we move it to a different location or just prune it into the shape that fits the space?

Prune away but read and watch this first: http://www.finegardening.com/how-to/articles/pruni...

Roses can be kept in bound, flat against the wall and not trying to eat the roof shingles. One day while in the richer part of town I gasped at the beauty of a perfectly pruned "hedge" against an iron fence......the hedge was climbing roses that the gardener had trained to remain "in bounds."

We pruned back our roses, they just grow a bit thicker after cutting them back, most people do it.

Do so if necessary. Always remember to dead head them. Visit http://www.seedsandshovels.com/ for more info
