I need ideas for fun targets to shoot?
Hi there,
For safety and cleanliness reasons, my shooting area is pretty restrictive on what they allow for targets. Basically, you can shoot paper targets or throw clay pigeons up on the berm and chase around the shards. You are not allowed to shoot metal, anything on the ground, glass or plastic. Basically, nothing with ricochet potential or stuff that will not bio-degrade.
I would like to get or make some interesting moving or reactive targets. Does anybody have ideas. I was thinging of making a frame and hanging wood blocks on string so they swing in the wind. But, I have a feeling I'll always be replacing the wood.
Other thoughts?
Thanks

Saltines go POOF when hit. No clean up, and little critters will get a free meal later. Balloons tied to a string will move more than anything else will in just the slightest breeze, very hard to hit from a distance, but you will have to clean up the rubber pieces when you're done. Empty Shotgun shells on the berm are not only very hard to hit, but when you do hit them they fly all over the place, giving you a new target when they land somewhere else. Pine cones. Golf balls are also hard to hit, but you'll have to clean up after them, plus when they are hit they take off like a rocket.

i like to use frozen grapes and apples. you can get a big bag of small apples at the store for not much money. you can also make some large ice cubes at home. i do this buy filling up small coke cans or by filling up juice boxes.
the best way to transport these items to the range is in a cooler.
all of these targets are fun to shoot and cheap

We used to make model airplanes--the kind which had a rubber band for a motor and shoot them down. You can buy balsa wood at hobby shops and make them. All you need is a few plastic propellors and some rubber bands and piece of wire. They can be shot several times with only minor repairs.

Wood doesn't exactly biodegrade. Your best bet is to use paper targets, like your shooting area says. If you use something else, and it turns out it isn't biodegradeable (like wooden blocks), you might lose the privilege of shooting there.
If you want to shoot something else, find a different shooting area.

Fill paper envelopes with flour, I bet they will go poof. To the other poster, wood is totally biodegradable, unless it is treated such as railroad ties or deck material.
