I want to breed a Purple spotted dog?

Why should "pit bull" breeders get to have all the fun and corner the market on extra special rare nose/coat colored dogs?

So I was thinking I could take a red leopard Catahoula and breed it with a blue merle and get a whole litter of extra rare and exotic purple leopard Catahoulas. I mean how hard could it be? How much do you think I could get per pup as they will come from a full pedigree of UKC registered dogs so I can have them registered as purple ribbon as well? Do you I think could more if I market them as super hogs dogs who can scent a wild hog as far as the next county over?

Also for a more rich purple color should I go with darker red and blue leopards?

Ok coming back from bizzaro nyquil land

Legit: how's everyone's thursday going? Finally getting over my cold thank god. Was tired of waking up congested to the point I couldn't breath.

And for dog related or rather puppy related - http://www.monaghancatahoulas.com/images/bella_tuf... How adorable is that face?

Also what have you seen in your breed being marketed as "special/rare/exotic" when its not? It can be color, size, imported lines etc.

Update:

@Pug: Normally I ignore people like you but I'm full of coffee and cough meds.

1. I do not troll. Telling people the truth they need to hear is not trolling. I just choose to not to sugar coat it. Don't like it? Oh well. Being liked by people I may never meet isn't really a concern of mine and internet popularity never has been.

2. If I bother you that much, don't read my q and a's then.

Update 2:

Sammy: And too late there haven't you seen the "rare" Merle Pit bulls? Guess where that color came from

Update 3:

Julie: hadn't thought about Easter. Even though I am a pagan most catahoula owners are god fearing christians. the light pups can be the test batch, I can do like companies do and use them as market research and go from there.

I like split faces on Catahoulas for some reason. The only thing I don't like about the pup is the brindle on the rear legs. I don't know what it is but brindle points/markings seem out of place to me on "solid" dogs. heck even some blue merles it looks just slapped on.

Update 4:

Sammy: Catahoulas. Some people cross the two for catch dogs. but you know like anything with dogs there's always one who's gonna take the ball and run into the land of exotic =$$$

Update 5:

MissVoya: Actually I was being sarcastic. But as far as the breed goes - breeding merle to merle which should only be done by serious experienced breeders - and it'd be a long while before I was even comfortable attempting that - could besides the obvious double merle could produce cryptic hidden merle(solid coat but genetically a merle), merles of only one color, solids, merles of both colors and non traditional merles ie patchworks.

As for price - if I didn't care about pedigrees health clearances etc etc I could get a pup for under $100 from any old hunter/farmer breeding their working dogs. Merles for more solids for less. Since i do however care about those things I already know I am going to be spending $500 and up for a good pup.

Bordeline: Hijack accepted. and yes something is off. Can't really put my finger on it, the face/head is really throwing me off, but yeah something is fishy there.

Update 6:

lab love: New pup yes, that particular pup, no. His litter is going to full time working homes only so I'm kinda outs there.

AS for headaches and dizzy spells - a comfy comforter and a LOT of cheesy movies.

Why not just mix in some "red nose" and "blue nose" APBTs and get some purple noses on there as well? Solid plan.

That pup sure is cute, but I personally don't like dogs that have white around the eyes like that - maybe because I'm so into Aussies.

As for the "special/rare/exotic" - I'll refer to Aussies and you'll know it's purely size. Crap. Total crap. And now those "mini" nuts have weaseled their way into the AKC's FSS. Major point against the AKC for me.

Legit: Exhausting. I just got back from work and ended up working an hour later - and have an early test tomorrow morning so I need to rush to shower and head to bed.

  • 1.) Pit bull owners cannot have all the fun. I want a ultra rare, brindle-blue dog thing. I can sell it to idiots for 15 thousand a pop, even though the dog is ugly and can't make it out the front door without fainting. I'm talking about American Bully mutts, not real APBTS. LOL!!

2.) Just put them in the backyard and let them mate, who CARES if the female has a crappy temperament. The pups could sell for 8 to 20 thousand a pop, no training required of course.

3.) You will be the next Donald Trump selling those rare pups.

4.) You should breed your purple pups with the gotti line american mutt, so you can have enough pups to sell and make a KILLING!! Dang, I evny you. Make sure you get me a 2013 something before it hits the showroom floor. I will be your best friend forever. Lol!

LEGIT: THAT PUP IS SO ADORABLE! I'm in love with puppies again, at least until they get on my nerves, then I'll want an older version of the breed. lol!!

Also what have you seen in your breed being marketed as "special/rare/exotic" when its not? It can be color, size, imported lines etc.

Rat Terrier-Merle, solid white, etc. Rat Terriers can NEVER be one solid color as that is a disqualification. Also, the tiny-toy rat terriers. The Teddy Roosevelt Terrier is the correct name for the smaller sized rattie. Don't let that small package fool buyers, they are a handful (as I own one). Stop pretending as if they actually bred these dogs that small and selling them for a leg to idiots. Some people are too stupid to research.

EDIT: I am doing all the research I need for my next rat terrier, by reading, asking other owners when I come across them and studying my own rattie. So far, so good. Teensy is quite the handful at times, but I know how to really get her tired (it's a secret. lol!!) and the only thing she can do after wards is sleep the rest of the night away.

Pug Love - I have a brain, I don't think it's cute, I think it's pretty God-damn hilarious! judging people like that after being on here for 4 days...

Purple spotted dog, LOL , I swear if I was still a kid I'd want to buy one from you, purple has always been my favourite colour :)

Just want to ask- Are you actually buying a new pup?

Legit: It's Friday here in Aus! My Thursday was $hit, I had about 3 hours sleep then a full day of uni, and was welcomed home to find half the garden on the deck, thanks to my puppy Coco. Today wasn't much better, headaches and dizzy spells, I really need a magical sleeping potion, have you considered selling that as well as your Purple spotted dogs?

Adorable puppy! Though like another answerer said, I'm not fond of white/ pink eye rims either.

Also what have you seen in your breed being marketed as "special/rare/exotic" when its not? It can be color, size, imported lines etc.

I see that basically every time I take a look at the pups in the pet-shop window at the shops. It always makes me wonder where the pups have come from...

EDIT: Cheesy Movies are my Favourite!! Went to the doctor for my 'head problems' and there's nothing wrong with me!!! I guess I'll just keep blaming it on Coco.. She thinks I'm being affectionate when I go "Gosh Coco, why do you have to make my head hurt!!" it's so cute!

  • LMAO Sign me up for the purple spotted dog. I want to breed it to my pink, neon Poodle so I can have purple and pink, neon dogs.Mmm I smell the money rolling in. But what to name it? Hmm Cataleopoo? I like it. How bout you?

Legit: I think I caught your cold. lol. I spent Monday in the hospital so I am on medical leave from work for the rest of the week :-(. I am soo bored on this Thursday afternoon. What I wouldn't give to be helping a dog get neutered or something. Anything is better than sitting home alone answering the stupid repetitive Qs that Y!A is famous for. Its so boring but so addictive that I can't log off.

That puppy is super cute. I wish I could have it. Not really because I have enough animals.

I can not even answer on the whole "exotic" thing without using up all the characters and getting a message that says. "Answer is too long". So here is the short version. Half the "exotic" dogs I see are either mutts or dogs with serious faults. I swore I saw it all when I saw a Merle Blue nosed pit bull with blue eyes". But there will always be something new tomorrow. Google "Merle pit bulls" and scroll down a few pages and you will see one.

The majority of breeders are already have too much fun [sarcasm] internally reinventing my breed of choice from the inside, so why not tinker with the outside appearance and create a lovely black and rust dapple Dobermann.

Something along the lines of the pup picture below. What an uplift I could charge for such a *rare* color....

    http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm191/memphis_b...

There are five color in the black, brown, blue [dilute of black], fawn [dilute of brown] and cream/albino - the hot potato color in the breed, that money grabber breeders indifferent to the associated health and temperament problems would actively breed for and good kennels breed against. Blue and fawn are also commonly marketed as “rare” when they are anything but.

However, if a person does not pause to research before they commit to purchase, they may believe they make take at face value what the breeder says and discover after the fact they paid for a “faded” black or brown.

I wasn't going to answer because I'm simply too exhausted to come up with anything right now. But a certain answer made me laugh pretty damned hard.

Would LOVE to know how someone who has been a member of Y!A for THREE days can tell that you're clearly "not a nice person" or whatever was said there.

Also, I fail to see how "having a brain" and finding this funny correlates at all darling "Pug Lover" my university education would beg to differ with you.

    Now for the question.......

I think I'd scratch selling them as hog dogs, haven't you heard? It's mean and evil to have a dog do that to the poor wittle piggies.

    Legit:

Day 2 of no sleep and 13 hour work days.

Refueling on coffee currently and I'll be good to go.

That puppy is adorable. Although, all dogs of that breed tend to be pretty stunning.

Rare "Liver" Border Collies. I swear they're more common around here than the black and whites, yet people keep spewing the "rare" word.

    Hijack Add:

So I decided to Google "Rare Border Collie colours"

And surprisingly the entire first page came up as "there are NO or "exotic" rare colours when it comes to this breed" so that was alright.

    Then I came across this:

    http://santaclara-utah.olx.com/rare-border-collie-...

Now, I may not be overly savvy with the puppy world, but does anyone else think that doesn't look quite right?

You know, it doesn't always work like that, if you bred a red leopard catahoula with a blue merle, it's not necessarily going to make a "exotic purple leopard catahoulas", you might just end up with a bunch of Red Leopard and Blue Merle. And these dogs, (especially when they're purebred) are not going to be cheap. If you want to be a breeder of these dogs, think how much money you'd have to spend, and how much time you'd have to commit.

Oh and all those who want to know what a Catahoula is take a look at this link, it's got a lot of info on them: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/catahoula.htm

Legit: Today is going great, so far. :-)

I hope this helps, and answers your question.

QUESTION: Also what have you seen in your breed being marketed as "special/rare/exotic" when its not? It can be color, size, imported lines etc.

ANSWER: King Dobermans. King Shepherds. King kong...the whole king thing drives me nuts.

And yes, I detest White Dobermans and are not ffond of fawn and see nothing exotic about either - (I have seen the occasional blue worth owning but they are few and far between) ...but the absolute worst I think I've seen was in a post here some time ago about Apricot German Shepherds - what an awful grotesque looking dog.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=201108...

    ***********

@Love: Yeah, the hits just keep on coming with GSDs..Apricot sheps my **** - I checked that picture you posted of the German Cow Moose ...the one with the snipey head and the cow hocks - a chicken front, straight shoulders, duck feet (down on its pasterns), no bone but weighs in at 95 lbs......

If it was my dog, I would shave its **** and make it walk backwards.

You ought to breed a red leopard catahoula dog with a razor's edge put bull. Then you'll get some Red Razor Catapit dogs.

Apparently Pug Lover has not read any of your questions or replies, otherwise he/sge would know you aren't a troll. And your answers are honest. Pity so few can handle tge truth.

Many people think Yorkie/poodle mutts are valuable dogs. My breed is rescue, so I'll take most any mutt or purebred, so my "breed" of choice is non existant.

Edit. I couldn't begin to guess. And to everyone else. I was joking and do not encourage the making of mutts.

Edit. Christmas and Easter ARE pagan holidays, so you can join in.

And my exotic mutts cost less than what most of them do.

Edit. Catahoula leopard dogs look like bluetick coonhound mutts to me. Very beautiful.
