Both my kids are sick is it ok to let them watch tv?! ?

My kids 3 & 5 are both sick with croup cough (barking seal cough, fevers, runny nose etc...) They obviously don't feel like doing much of anything except lay in front of the tv (I feel horrible for letting them do it) but what else can I do with them?! It seems like once they start getting active their cough gets worse! I guess I'm wondering what other parents do? Is it ok to let them lay in front of the tv?! Please be nice no need to be rude!

Watching TV is the only thing my kids do when they are sick - when they aren't sleeping. I don't want them active when they're supposed to be resting (they have a terrible habit of relapsing or feeling worse as soon as they get up to play). It's like a special treat for them, to spend the whole day watching movies and TV shows on Netflix when they feel crummy. It's what I got to do when I was sick - cuddle up on the couch and doze off to television. Hell, it's what I do NOW when I'm sick!

No problem with them watching tv when they are sick. However, a friend of mine who runs 25+ miles several times a week always says that the best thing for chest congestion is exercise. Yes, your kids cough more when they are active...but that does mean that they are coughing that stuff out of their lungs instead of just letting it lie there. So, some activity is probably good...as well as some lying around.

He is a bully, no matter what level of education he has behind him, there is no excuse for the way he carries on and he needs putting in his place. Stand your ground the next time he starts to throw his weight around with you, bullies thrive on being the one in control, take that control from him and let him know you will not tolerate this anymore. Your mother should be the one to stand up to him and tell him that he is out of order treating a child of hers this way, you say you can't talk to either of them, well you are going to have to try or this kind of thing will just continue unless you speak out. Maybe they will listen if you warn them that the next time you are assaulted by him you will bring the authorities into it. Is there anyone at school who you could talk to about this? I think the sooner you tell someone outside the family the better. I really can sympathise because I had all of this crap from my own father and yet my mother stood by and let him get away with it. I involved different teachers from school and then later on a social worker got involved. In the end I went to live with my grandparents but not before standing up to the pair of them and punching my father in the face because he was coming at me yet again. He never touched me since and now they are both wary of me, I have now cut ties with my father now that I am older. I am not saying to do anything so drastic, it was either him or me and I was sick to death of being a punch bag for that old drunk. When you say that you plan to have your revenge on them when you are older, you are sounding very angry and I am not surprised in the slightest, being in that kind of environment does make you angry, believe me I know and I still have anger problems to this day on. It isn't healthy for your mental state to be living like this so please do tell someone, there must be someone you know who can help you. Look online for social services in your area if there are no teachers in school who can help, or maybe try your Dr. Not knowing where you are makes it hard to steer you in the right direction! I wish you all the best x

Yes, with this kind of sickness the best thing to do is give them rest and cough medicine

Reading the reserve instead of seeing the movie is the best way to see what the writer expected. Reading uses your creativity, hones your reading skills, and can increase your vocabulary.

It's fine they need to rest and while watching TV you're not usually using your brain or any energy so it's just right for someone feeling ill.

Okay, make them a warm drink (Hot cocoa, tea, or soup) But before give them medicine. Make them relax in front of the TV and get them cuddled up!

When my kids are sick, they watch a lot of tv...and when they feel even a little bit better, they color and do easy arts and crafts.
