Septum piercing help?

For my 16th birthday coming up I'm going to get my septum pierced. If my grandmother says I can I'm probrolly going to have my friend do it. I'm just wondering what should I use to clean it with? Will salt water work fine?

If your grandma cares about your health, she's not going to let your friend pierce you. There's a reason body piercers spend YEARS learning how to do what they do. If you're not willing to let a professional do the piercing, you don't need the piercing at all. Cleaning a home done piercing will NOT remove all of the bacteria and germs that were on whatever you got pierced with and are now in your body. It is so easy to get an infection, it's really not worth getting a "free" piercing when you add in the cost of the doctors visit and the antibiotics.

Rant aside, you stick to either a mild soap and water or sea salt soaks to clean the piercing. Your piercer may have an aftercare product that they recommend, too.

They are pretty painful, some people faint when they get them, but I would suggest antibacterial soap and water on a que tip, as salt can dry up your nose, which is a no no because your nose will already feel dry and itchy afterward.

mix sea salt and hot/warn water, use a q tip and apply it to the piercing twice a day, keep rubbing it on there for five minutes.
