Any thing that you install can be a carrier of a virus or information that sends your computers brain into confusion, and to protect the computer it shuts down.
first, click - start -Help and Support -pick a Task-Undo changes to my computer with System Restore!
pick a date prior to your current troubles, it will shut down and restore your computer to that date.
Download Avast FREE AntiVirus, and run a scan
Download the latest Internet Explorer from Microsoft, It Brings with it a "Malicious Software Removal Tool.
Put the instillation disk in and scan it with avast.
If this doesn't help Open your Computer in Safe Mode, by tapping F-8 during opening, and remove the Steam Activation disk software, and scan the disk and re-install your steam activation.Good Luck!

do a scan then a back up and go to start at an earlier date, if this fixes it you may have a faulty installation disc
