What was the ultimate musclecar?

While the answer depends on waht you think a muscle car is, My choice would be the 1969 Camaro COPO zl-1. The race car aluminum big block 427 should give it the highest power to weight ratio that was ever let out of a Chevy factory.

Update:

yes only 69 were made

    your answer depends on your definition of muscle car. there were a few to choose from besides the one you mentioned...for instance...the 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88/427 V8...[ there was one available with the all aluminum block but I can't recall the model number] ...the 1966/7 Ford Shelby A/C Cobra 427 S.O.H.C side oilier...the 1969/70 Plymouth Hemi Cuda 426 C.I.D W/ Hemispherical heads & Dual Quads...the 1969 American Motors A.M.X with a 390 C.I.D. V-8...the Buick Grand National with a twin turbo charged inter cooled V-6 [ refer ed to as a G.M.X]..the 66 Dodge 440 C.I.D wedge street ram...the 1967 [ or was it a 68 or 9] Yenco Camaro W/427-L88 V8 which was sanctioned by Chevrolet...many to choose from...it comes down to personal favorite,s........the L88 Corvette was lighter than the Camaro...the choice is yours!

    The COPO (Central Office Production Order) is a good choice but seeing as how only something like 69 of them were made, I just don't see how it can be classified as a "production car"

    1971 Hemi Cuda

    Yenko Nova's

    1970 Boss Mustang

    1970 Chevelle SS

    GTO's up to 68 (don't care for the rounded body)

    My personal favorite are the 1965-66 Shelby GT 350's.

    1969 camaro standard model would have been if it wasn't for the fact they were not durable. I think my favorite is the SS as it could do what you wanted and you could race against most cars of the age and not have a problem with loosing unless you went up against other musclecars. It would need a 350 in it for diversity of engine modifications and I would want it factory yellow.

    Good choice in the ZL1.

    I'm building a 69 Camaro "tribute" car that will look just like the original.

    Supercar == 1969 Camaro ZL1

    1964 Ford Thunderbolt (http://musclecars.howstuffworks.com/classic-muscle...

    While not meant to be driven on the street they were and it just did not get any better then this. True there were only 100 originals made, but there are clones out there and still others being constructed.

    The Corvette is not in anyone's definition of a muscle car. Its a 2 seater.

    I would go with the Charger Daytona or Plymouth Superbird, or there are a few rare Fords, problem with that is they would not meet your definition. They were not let out of a factory, The final assembly was sub-contracted out to independant shops.
