my cat had her kittens and the runt isn't eating?

She just had her baby's last night and all her baby's came out fine. Everything went really smooth. Except the runt keeps sleeping, at least I think it's sleepy. Well the point is the kitten isn't eating I tried putting its face on a nipple but it just curls up and lays still, will it die? This is my first time handling a cat with babies im really scared for it is there a way to get it to eat?

The mother may feel the kitten won't survive. But that doesn't mean you can't try and help, and for that, I am providing a link. Good luck.

  • 50,000 cats and dogs are born each day. 60% of animals that go into shelters will be euthanized due to not enough homes. Maybe spay your cat when you can? If cost is an issue there was programs to help you pay for it if you're a low income home.

I wouldn't take the kitten to the vet it's too young and they will only tell you to either try bottle feeding or see how it goes. Also there could be something genitically wrong with the poor baby. I would spend the $$$ on spaying your cat.

Try bottle feeding the baby, there's great formula at your local vet. The formula at the department store isn't very nutritious.

You are not feeding it real milk, right? The kittens will starve to death and become sick on cow's milk. Make sure you are feeding them special formula for kittens. The best advice I can give would be to go to the vet ASAP. He might need an IV...if you get him nourished enough, then he will eat on his own. Please don't give up on the little kitten. :(

You can try getting a kitten bottle and formula, feed it every 2-3 hours around the clock. Sometimes nature handles it's own mistakes, sad but true. If you are going to try, get to the store ASAP(Petsmart/Petco/Any large pet store), do not wait anylonger. My cats runt is now almost twice her size.

She will die if you dont help her! Get KMR (kitten milk replacement) and warm it to room temperature in a bottle or an eye/ear dropper. Do it yourself. Wet the bottle nipple with some milk to give it some flavour.

Keep her warm and try your best to let her drink. Massage her neck gently to encourage swallowing. Good luck.
