Theists: Can you disprove the existence of anything that does not exist?

I sure am having trouble disproving the existence of an 8-foot tall self-aware milkshake, so there's GOT to be one out there by your logic.

Update:

@TheGunslinger: If you can't back up your claim, you might as well not have one at all.

Update 2:

@Bible reviews: ...So if you asked me to disprove the existence of god, I can just point to the sky and say "Well there you go. No omnipresence in THIS stratosphere." and you'll be satisfied with my reply? That seems like a statement that would set both of us miles backward.

In a universe the size of ours, it's likely nearly anything exists. I don't try to prove negatives, it's a fool's game, because you can never say you looked everywhere.

I'd need a definition of milkshake before even starting, for example. If you define a milkshake as milk and ice cream, for example, there probably isn't anything in there to house a consciousness, but you can find lots of milkshakes made of different ingredients.

It's funny because I knew a guy who was a costumed character who was, indeed, a milkshake, and self-aware. You might not consider a costumed character milkshake a milkshake, but kids sure did.

Edit: Regarding your additional information, should we not tell our loved ones we love them? That is a claim that can't be 'backed up.'

not something can disprove the existence of God. technology has repeatedly tried and failed. the great Bang starts off of with 2 debris colliding, the place did they arrive from. If the universe is increasing, it ought to've started someplace. Why is the Earth the right distance from the sunlight to maintain existence? each thing has been designed to the atomic point.

Yea...actually God just posted the video of Jesus rising from the tomb and the Creation on youtube.

Seriously, believing in God is a matter of faith based on nondirect (nature, human behavior, observational) and direct (personal experiences through a spiritual connection and having spiritual vision) evidence. It is said that people who don't believe are spiritually blind. The evidence that I have seen due to faith would not be something that you would see. I could tell you about it (witnessing) but you would have to make your own personal decision.

It is a beautiful system really. If there was indisputable evidence (lets say a video) of the existence of God, then 100% would believe in God, rather they had the character to have faith or not.

    1) Theists: Can you disprove the existence of anything that does not exist?

Of course. Simple example: I have an empty box. The blue whale that resides in that box does not exist. I can easily prove it to anyone by presenting the box to them for their examination.

Another simple example: it can be proved that the equality 2 = 3 does not exist for the set of integers.

Etc. ad nauseum. Examples are legion and very easy to come up with.

    - Jim, http://www.bible-reviews.com/

P.S. Apples and oranges. You argument does *not* logically prove that God does not exist - but my argument (rather: presentation of evidence) *does* logically prove that the blue whale in the box does not exist.

You asked a question, and I answered the question asked. I did not suggest or mean to suggest that it is possible to logically disprove the existence of God. What I meant to do was to answer the question asked, and the correct answer is this: it certainly is possible to disprove the existence of some particular things that do not exist (you did say "anything" - not "God"). That **does not mean** that it is possible to disprove the existence of EVERYthing that does not exist. It ONLY means that it IS possible to disprove the existence of some particular things - as I have ably shown, answering your question.

Keep looking, it JUST might be there.

There are planets out there that would make our Jupiter look like a bb in comparison, or maybe even smaller. And if someone was to live on one of those planets.....there could very well be 8 foot tall milk shakes.

Lot into science...and see what size of stars are out there....much much larger then our sun...and if they have planets around them...what size could they possibly be?

    Who knows? Maybe a 50 foot milkshake....huh?

Negative can be proven. The absence of something can be proven as well.

What claim? I'm stating the way it is. Plain and simple.

It can be proven there are not any squirrels in my garage. - That is a claim. What I stated are the laws of logic.

"Proof" only really happens in mathematics.

But in mathematics, it is possible to prove the non-existence of some things.
