An EMT will not need any math.

A Paramedic does not need much math either. If the program is through a college they might have to take a simple math test to make sure you can add and substract but that is about it. No program in the US requires algebra for a Paramedic. The few med calculations you will need to know will be taught during the class and are not that difficult. But, if you want to go on to becoming an RN or some other health care professional that REQUIRES a degree you will need at least algebra.

You can also take the Paramedic course at a votech, private tech school or even some ambulance or Fire departments and not worry about any math testing.

Depending on what state you are in the EMT is only 110 - 150 hours and the Paramedic is anywhere from 500 - 1200 hours total. So both could easily be done in a year.

Look up your state's EMS office website for the programs/schoos and requirements.

A EMT is a one semester course at a community college. In most places they do not give meds, so little math. A paramedic is at least a one year dedicated paramedic program; they need math through algebra. You HAVE to be able to figure medication doses out, and do conversions and things like that.
