What Questions Do the Nurses ask while you're being admitted for labor?

I remember while waiting to be "admitted" to the hospital to deliver my baby they had asked me several questions prior to administering an IV. The pain I had was high and they asked me all these annoying questions which secretly made me angry because I had pre-registered and I didn't want to answer what they were asking as it wasn't even related to contractions & timing and how far along I was etc. It was health history questions.. My mother was helping answer but they didn't seem to appreciate that, like it was wrong. I was in pain and really felt like screaming at them to shut the hell up and look at my paperwork. Anyway... anyone remember what the questions are?

To avoid this, you can write ALL your medical history down on paper and ask your birth partner to go through it with them. Then just sign it at the end. Just remember every little detail of your history. It's also a good idea to include your parents history if there is anything related to blood problems (blood pressure or diabetes etc) or hereditory issues.

They MIGHT accept that, making it a little easier for you.

OR go to a GP and ask for a copy of your medical history and give them that.

    - I forgot to mention I do not know exactly what the questions are, but a signed copy of your medical history up to date should be fine.

They ask questions because even though you pre-register, that is not your medical record. They might not have copies of your medical records from your clinic yet (esp. if it's in the middle of the night). They ask you:

    -medication allergies

-what you've had to eat or drink and when you last had them (in case of surgery prep) or if you follow a special diet

-what your preferences are for pain management

-if you plan on breast or bottle feeding

-if you have religious preferences that need to be honored while hospitalized

-if you have any medical conditions or past surgeries (may affect your labor and delivery options)

-if you have any other preferences or a birth plan that you would like followed

-if you are currently having pain, what the intensity is of that pain, where it is located, and how you would like the nurses to treat that pain (if at all)

-they also ask if you have any valuables like phones or laptops or jewelry and will remind you that the hospital is not responsible for lost or stolen items

There are a few more standard admission questions. They should be asking them while you are in-between contractions and it is ok for family members to help answer for you as long as you can nod or verbalize your agreement that they are answering correctly for you. These questions are asked not to make you more miserable, but to ensure your safety and to make sure you get what you need from the medical staff. Unfortunately, when you choose to deliver your baby in a hospital, the staff has a job to do whether you like it or not, and there are reasons - good ones - for everything they do, whether you can see it in that moment or not.

They ask those questions because things might have changed since you've pre registred. They want the answers coming from you because your mom might give them the wrong info opening them up to a law suit. I'm surprised she was allowed in the room during the questions. They ask what you're doing for feeding so they know whether or not to have formula ready, and they need to know when you last ate or drank so they know in case you need a c-section.
