I have an internet question?

When on the internet (by the way.... i have a new dell inspiron.. with the i3 intel and i use firefox browser) I can be on a page, completely loaded, and then suddenly it redirects to a page that says "the page you requested can not be found" .. and it doesn't do this a soon as the page loads. It can be on the page for 2 or 3 minutes and it will still do it. What can i do to correct this problem. I have a very good virus protection so i know its no a virus and like i said this is a brand new computer. Just got it 2 days ago.

It sounds like you are losing connection to the internet. Look at the bottom right hand of the screen, you should see an internet connection icon (usually shows signal strength in "bars"). If this goes to a red 'x' or goes yellow, you are losing internet. This could be a faulty NIC (network interface card), cabling if you are using a wired connection, or a problem with your router or ISP (your internet service provider might be having issues). Personally I would start with the cable if you have one, or the router.

Is it still giving you issues? I'm still watching for resolution on this incident.

You can always click on that icon I mentioned. When it is red or yellow, right click on it, and open network and sharing center. You'll see a pictorial of your internet. You'll see a red 'x' or a yellow exclaimation point. Depending on where that is located, it will tell you a little about the issue. Double click on it and it will try to troubleshoot the problem. It's usually not very successful, but it can give you some useful information. If worse comes to worse, tell me what that says, and we can go from there.

PLease let us know the current status of your situation?

I doubt seriously that it is a redirect virus, as they usually redirect to a very specific page that is well maintained. Here's something else you can try when this happens:

    1) goto start

    2) go to all programs

    3) go to accessories

    4) right click on "Command Prompt"

    5) select "run as administrator"

    6) Select yes when asked if you want to allow this program elevated access.

    7) In the black box that appears type "ping yahoo.com" without the quotes

you will likely get a 100% signal loss; and it may take a few minutes to complete.

    8) when you can type again, type "tracert 209.191.122.70"

    9) record your results and call your ISP. This data will definitely assist them in helping you find the source of your issues. :D

Your network card has a deficit. I am guess a laptop using wireless connection. Try a wire connection to see if the problem goes away. I would return the unit for other one.
