When has a Republican presidential candidate ever kept so quiet about religion?

Usually every second word a Republican presidential candidate speaks is "God" or "Jesus," right? But not Romney; do you think he's either trying to hide his religion or at least not wishing to draw people's attention to it? He's going to have to bring it into the light sooner or later, isn't he? The people of the USA have a right to know the kind of reality their president perceives and the president has an obligation to be honest about his or her beliefs, don't they?

I think his Mormonism is a problem with many voters, so he won't bring up religion as much.

Colin Powell has been a Presidential eager for years. i'm happy he in no way ran using fact i believe all of us might have been duped using fact for sure he's compromised. Michael Steele is the present chair and final time I checked he grew to become into African American. Alan Keyes has been a Presidential nominee and a few needed Condoleeza Rice to run. sure the Republican celebration might and can want a minority candidate sometime attainable in 2012 in Bobby Jindal. Why do you care besides, you may in no way vote for them.

I'm a democrat but of all the republican candidates I could tolerate Romney..... He doesn;t bring up his religion because it SHOULDN'T MATTER. We have freedom of religion in this country and NO WHERE does it say someone has to be a traditional christian to be president. He understands the seoparation of church and state and would stand by that.

Actually, most Republican candidates don't say a lot about religion, unless they believe there's some way to impugn the integrity of their opponent by reference.

And I don't really give a damn about his religious beliefs. In fact, anyone who runs BASED UPON their beliefs automatically doesn't get my vote, because I know they don't understand the job they're applying for. Santorum falls into that latter group.

I doubt Romney is very religious, but saying you're an atheist is political suicide. Im glad he doesn't need to look to a sky fairy to run a country.

@LightGuardian In god we trust has been on the money for less than 100 years, same with one nation under God in the pledge, needless to say, our primarily deist founding fathers would not approve.

    Benjamin Franklin:

Quote from his autobiography: "I soon became a thorough Deist."

    Paine:

Wrote The Age of Reason; Being an Investigation of True and Fabulous Theology which is a "deistic pamphlet, written by eighteenth-century British radical and American revolutionary Thomas Paine, that criticizes institutionalized religion and challenges the legitimacy of the Bible"

Jefferson: says "he was influenced by deist philosophy while at William & Mary, particularly by Bolingbroke" He can be quoted saying "Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because, if there be one, he must more approve the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear."

That's a few, there are other Deists and many ambivalent of the Christian God.

He is not running for priest, pastor or pope, He is running for president, His religion is not a factor, but His ability to do the Job.

Ron Paul keeps pretty quiet about it and doesn't want to push it on other people.
