Does the future hold Mac Viruses?

So I hear a lot of people saying that Apple Macs are not able to get viruses because the majority of people use Windows... Well, lately Apple has gotten a lot of products out there and a lot of people are using Macs more than ever. So does that mean that the promise of no viruses will eventually be deemed a lie, since more hackers will start to develop viruses for iOS devises in order to catch up witht he trend of so many people using iOS devises? Its plausible right? What are your thoughts?

And a lot of what you are hearing is bullshit too. PCs outsell macs still today by 95%. Secondly, only people who know no better claim there is no malware for macs. There may be nowhere near as much but there IS malware. Apple wouldn't suggest you buy some protection if there wasn't. If macs even became 25% as popular as PCs are, malware would be coming out the woodwork. The simple truth is the "computer that does everything a PC can do" doesn't even come close to doing what PCs can do. If they did, people wouldn't be installing Windows on them. That brings me to another point. Why spend 1200 bucks on a mac, then install Windows on it so it can do what a 600 dollar PC can do out of the box? By installing Windows, you've made it just as susceptible to malware.

Bassman is incorrect in saying macs can't get viruses. They can't get windows viruses, but they can certainly get mac viruses. However, I don't see macs as being targets by virus programmers any time soon. There wouldn't be any point other than to troll someone with a mac. The vast majority of people still use PCs. The vast majority of companies and organizations use PCs. Time spent writing a PC virus is more beneficial for a malicious programmer than if he spent time writing a mac virus.

It's not just about the raw size of the userbase, but the makeup. MacBooks are mostly used by college students, and Windows is mostly used by corporations and businessmen. Now if you were to design a virus to steal someone's credit card number, who's would you steal?

There was a recent malware designed for Mac machines called the Imuler.C Trojan.

There is no OS that is impenetrable no matter how well it is written. If more people start to use Macs, surely, malicious programs will start circulating to take advantage to it.
