Theists, can you empathize with this statement? Why or why not?
"I cannot believe what I cannot observe."
@ darkpreacher: Actually, we HAVE observed gravity. Just because we can't see it doesn't mean we haven't observed it. Also, "Atheistic Satanist" is a self-contradicting statement. The implication of Satan implies that there is a God. Yahweh, particularly.

There was an atheist who won a Pulitzer with his writings. Oddly, what this man wrote is not an atheist writing in it's core.
I don't recall his name at the moment, but his writing was based on this:
One cannot objectively look at the ideology of God. To look at the idea objectively means that you have to admit that EVERYTHING you know could be wrong. No person can give up their core beliefs like that. To say "hey, everything I think will have to change based on this one idea" is a scary thought.
Perhaps you and I have observed the opposite of our atheism and theism, respectfully; yet, we, at our core reject the notion.
I should note this: What I *observe* in this universe does not seem to be capable of coming from happenstance. What you observe may vary from this. The truth is neither of us will look at this with an open mind, as per the aforementioned writings of a brilliant man.
So, to answer your question. No, no I cannot empathize with you for not observing what I believe to observe.

That's a bad way to put it, I think. When you say observation, you mean something subjective, that you can measure, touch, taste, see with instruments, and understand. It's very possible that any of these crazy religious nut bags will tell you that they observe god every day. They see god in everything. And since that's all you asked, then they would be technically correct in telling you that, even if you meant something totally different.

Sure, as long as by observe, you also mean observe the effects of like you implied in your additional details.
So yeah, if God had done absolutely nothing observable in my life of 20 years, I wouldn't be able to believe in Him.

Empathize?
We learn by observation but often must act without the benefit of experience ie. previous observation. It is also often impractical to wait for or recreate the opportunity to observe before doing many things. though most barriers have been broken for us, well placed trust is far more beneficial that observing every aspect of our daily lives.

People can believe all kinds of things, regardless of whether they observe it or not. I can believe that little green men live on Mars. So what?
Not a good argument.
