What should I do? Just give up?

My mom was diagnosed with cancer in 2010. She is in remission now, but needs helps around the house since she has life long chemo side effects and everythIng. I'm in college, but I want to go away to an interior design schoOl. My dad and brother don't live with us, and my 30 year old safer lives with us, but she doesn't help at all. She just makes my mom have to work more and all she does is date guys. I do all I can to help out my mom. I want to go away for school, and she knows I want to also. She seems to be ok with it, but I'm not. I want to make sure my mom will be ok, but I want to follow my dreams too and maybe eventually be able to help my mom get an easier house and all. My dad and brother don't help really. And If my sister helps, she complains. She can't afford her own place right now. What should I do? I really want to go to design school, but I want to make sure my mom will be ok too. Help please :(

You are one to be admired....truly. Your mother loves you more than life itself as you do her. She wants you to go to design school I am sure. If you have the funds go to a design school and choose one that is in close proximity to your mom. Your presence there would be helpful to her but it seems that other siblings and your father need to kick in and help. you are the motivator to get them to get in the action lane and help. As long as you are there, they will be slackers. Go to design school and if your mom gets worse, you can visit her quickly and take a leave of absence from classes until she is better. All schools offer the ability to leave a class under family emergencys.

It what your mom would want you to do. Pray about it and see what God puts in your heart.

I would help your mother for a little while longer until she has the strength to do more for herself. Once she's a little more stable I think you should follow your dreams. Maybe when you leave your sister will step up and help out more without complaining. My own mother had cancer as well. She is now in remission and is doing very well. Today you could never even tell she went through such a thing as cancer. It's very kind hearted of you to take care of her but I'm sure she'd rather you go after your dream career than stay home and care for her. If nothing else, you can come back on the weekends or during long breaks to make sure she is getting the care she needs. Best of luck!

Honey, I am going to Talk From Experience. My and Mom and Dad Both died Of Cancer. Mom Died Before we knew what the hell was wrong. Dad Had More time. Fortunately,I come From a large Family. We all pitched in To make Dads final months at Home as Comfortable as possible. I Have completed my 2nd round of chemo and Radiation for cancer to my tonsils, Thyroid, and throat. I am now cancer free for 13 months. My dad and i had a benefit that is also available to you and your Family. Contact Your Local Hospice Network. They can send a Physical Therapist, Meals, Nurses, or some-one just to spend time with your Mother. If your mom has any insurance at all, it probably wont cost a dime out of the Family pocket. You Do not Know Me, But For God sake, And yours LOOK INTO IT< PLEASE>. Let me know how it works out, and I will say a thousand prayers for your Mother.

Don't give up, just put things on hold for awhile. School isn't going anywhere, but you only have one mother and you can't count on anyone else to really help her. She needs you. She was always there when you needed her. You will never regret it. Can you go locally or take online courses?

I think you should follow your dreams & everyone else needs to help out instead of you doing all of the work .
